Pankaj Singh's case is indeed strange . Ranadeb Bose, S S Paul also performed really well but never got to play because they were supposedly around 130 k. Both were 6'4" and got bounce. No problem if they are not quick enough , I actually liked it, but the issue is so many even slower pacers got chances.

That is an interesting insight. Performances against the big teams are what matters. Makes you wonder why they don't create a real "super league" including only the teams who they respect.

A five wicket haul in a tour game should at least keep you in the squad!

as much I am impressed with the increase in quality of talent at junior ranks these days, I still cringe at the level of pace bowling . why is it so difficult to identify taller ,quicker bowlers? there is some problem right from those levels. also the states individually have to take it upon themselves to identify quicker bowlers.if they are under 6 , demand special strengths like athleticism and shoulder speed.generally look for those above 6 4

shami and unadkat do not look ready for a duel with the aussies. they struggled to penetrate Zimbabwe at times in very helpful conditions and indicates they are a long way behind in the learning curve. zaheer and aaron need to be looked at.

I've just checked Ishant's year-by-year record and he has actually done very well this year. I am very surprised. He has 30 wickets at 26.06 with economy of 5.49 and SR of 28.4. Would certainly not be fair to drop him with those performances. I just wonder why he looks so terrible, so often!

Most of those wickets are batsmen slogging. Numbers can be so facile.

It was a hard bouncy track and we were just putting it their. You want to know the pace difference in Watson and Indian bowlers. Watson's quickets was quicker than our quickest Ishant. Average pace was more than our quickest Ishant. Only Mckay was slower on average pace but he is tall was getting bounce and seam movement and even his quickest was as quick as Ishant's. Indian average pace yesterday. I guess myself, maniac and KXIPFan are the only 3 guys who genuinely want Ishant in the team........I believe our pace attack should consist of Bhuvi (swing and seam), Yadav (genuine pace) and Ishant (natural bounce)....the 3 of them will give us a good attack with variety.....ideally one of them would have been left handed......but then again, Australia dominated world cricket with an all right handed pace attack......

I don't claim to support the dropping of Yadav. At first I did' date=' but his recent performances did not warrant a drop from the ODI team. However, your thought that only Indians drop fast bowlers is mistaken. South Africa dropped Steyn when he first played for them. Mohammad Sami was in and out of the Pakistan team, even the ODI team where he was pretty consistent. Adam Milne is not currently in the New Zealand team. South Africa have a guy called Vilgeon who bowls 145kph who has not played international cricket. England have had Dernbach in and out of the side even though he bowls quicker than pretty much any of their other bowlers, same for Stuart Meaker.[/quote'] You are wrong about Milne and Viljoen. Milne is too young and very up and down in pace because of stamina. He is not in the team because they want him to develop and he is getting better and soon he will be an essential part of NZ team. Regarding Viljon, he is young too and only 24, he played for SA A team recently, had good List A record and might soon be playing for SA. He is a great prospect with what I saw in CLT20.

T Look at Johnson-Don't see a lot of changes in his action from the time he first started.All I can see is that the guy has gotten fitter and is built like a bull now,probably improved his accuracy with a lot of practice.

He has. Look at his runup now and and delivery stride than 1 year back when he was dropped. This has helped him a lot in generating more pace with accuracy. His steps are more precise and shorter now, bowling arm is more in control. Shami also has the same problem Johnson had. He needs to work that out too.

Not every batsman in county was a great batsmen and then in England, you might not always need to put 100% if you can swing the ball at a lower. There is a reason a lot of medium pacers are so successful in County cricket who swings the ball at medium pace.

Fact is line and length can go wrong due to a host of reasons especially lack of rhythm, something wrong with action or release etc. " he should try to pitch the ball up" even after a single and decent bouncer bowled in one over. " line and length are far more important than pace ". Actually both are important. " we have encouraged him to bowl quick and not think about anything else ". This is a rare statement but again focuses on the fact that both pace and accuracy are not simultaneously desired. There are many more such statements but you get the drift. The cricket fraternity in India tend to believe that a pacer needs to cut down on pace to bowl well or forget about everything else to bowl quick.

In India, everyone thinks, if you are slow, you are accurate and if you are quick, you must be wayward. While pace has nothing to do with accuracy. even bowlers who does not have pace can be wayward. It has more to do with action of a bowler if he is getting it right or not and to perfect that you need a lot of practice.

He used to bowl 123-127k at that time as I had watched him bowl at that time, but last year he worked on Mayrick Pringle and his pace was increased. He clocked up to 141K and was consistently around 135K in first Ranji match at Eden.

I do not think so. He is dropped because he was poor in Challenger and selectors were watching that. Vinay was dropped from Zimbabwe ODIs from 4th match for Mohit because he neither got wickets nor stopped runs in seaming conditions at Harare but he took a few wickets in Challenger while batsmen were going after him and a wicket of out of form Sehwag and he is back in the team.
