IPL is a good gauge of how quick a bowler can go because it allows you to see them bowl several times and I've never seen him bowl consistently over 135kph.

I saw him bowling 130-135 in Ranji trophy against Punjab and Mumbai live matches.

Thats the value of good seamers with zip, they can win the game for you. Instead our seamers keep the oppo in game. We never have a pack of bowlers hunting after oppo, working in pairs. Shami doing well but trundlers at other end

There is. Look at what Hayden said in commentary. There is a huge difference in facing 125-130K bowler like Vinay and a 140K bowler like Shami. Anything around or over 140K keeps batsmen on the toes and with a bit of movement, that bowler can be really dangerous. Look at Steyn, He rarely bowls really fast over 145K. He is mostly around 138-142K, hits right length and swings the ball at that pace that is what makes him so good. Regarding Ishant, he has not been bowling 145 but around 130KPH these days.

Wow !! @$$ I guess this widespread misconception has produced so many trundlers in our country.

express bowling Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Watching Steyn and Morkel bowling well between 140 to 149 k consistently in a test match. It is a competitive sport. Yet we are seeing some of us getting excited over New 127 k pacers, who are maybe 132 k on a good day. Now , it is understandable if people say that we do not have many good pacers who can bowl at pace. What can we do but include these trundlers ? They are temporary choices till we get better ones.But how can we think that they are world class when we are seeing that world class is 140+ with skill !

If not Indian selectors, then at least Indian fans shud be unanimous in their expectaions / preferences from fast bowlers. Instead there are still takers of the Indian theory that bowl line n length to create pressure n pressure will bring wickets and Dhobi is a great proponent of that theory. only thing is somehow these people go into a brain freeze, turn blind or start making excuses when these line n length medium pacers become fodder for batsmen instead of creating pressure. there shud be a protest outside dhoni's house on Stop playing uselss trundlers, we want fast bowlers in the team. Not to get into conspiracy theory here, but I really think its dhoni who is to blame for believing in trundlers more than the selectors. The indian captain has a great say in selections whether it be ganguly or dhoni, selectors cant do much if captain wants particular bowlers in the team. I say this also becoz selectros gave dhoni at least Shami ahmed,, but captain selects playing 11 and he just didnt select Shami for 1st 3 games and also Amit mishra who is in good form, even othough the bowlers he played are not looking like they r bowling well at all.
