CG Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 One ball goes through leg side and we have a legslip.I Wonder if the ball goes through dhonis leg who will he position under him.
saneindian Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 234 all out. CG wont come to this thread for sometime
vvvslaxman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Gautam Gambhir did the exact same thing in NZ series as a captain. Having leg slip for Ashwin. it worked well for him.
CG Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 234 all out. CG wont come to this thread for sometime Lol What ,Do u not find it stupid the way dhoni just brings on legslip after one ball goes through the region. Why do not u give ur view .
CG Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Gautam Gambhir did the exact same thing in NZ series as a captain. Having leg It works very rarely .When ur fast bowler is bowling well and getting edges u do not bring leg slip in.Dhoni has got in to habbit of bringing leg slip after a legglance.
vvvslaxman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 No I think it is a part of the strategy for Ashwin's bowling mainly. WOrked for Gauti. Ever since i have noticed him having leg slips from time to time.
CG Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Well i was talking about fast bowlers not spinners.Today shami ahmed was bowling to samuels and one goes through leg side and boom we have a legslip.I have seen him employ legslip to fast bowlers.Spinners u understand but fastbowlers with new ball.
vvvslaxman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Unless there is a strategy leg slip is rare. Or it may be for providing cushion for bowlers to bowl straight without worrying about what happens if they miss the line.
saneindian Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 THe leg slip was there for Bravo/Marlon and the trap was set for flick shot. Had similar fields last time WI played at Kotla. He nearly got out a couple of times. Also, on a pitch with low bounce ,leg slip for an off spinner is a good position if the spinner can consistently attack the stumps. IIRC Kohli has taken a few catchs at leg slip recntly including one in the CT final. Also during the early to mid 90s, Sachin used to field there regularly when the spinners bowled, "Tendulkar ne tendue ki tarah lapak liya" used to be the words of DD commies in those days! BTW if you notice Strauss, Cook, Clarke and Mahela (when he was captain) they all employ leg slips quite regularly in tests. Its a trend that had gone out of fashion but has been catching up again.

Oh come on How many times u have captains having legslips in the opening spell.Dhoni took out third slip and put a legslip and next ball samuels edged it to third slip and he moved the legslip out.So he is just following the ball .I have seen dhoni emply leglsip to fast bowlers abroad too.I do not remember more than a instance where legslip actually worked for indian fast bowler.

Crookbond Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I remember Kohli snapping up Kamran Akmal at leg slip in the CT. 15.1 87.7 kph, Akmal has walked! a flighted delivery that spins in, Akmal unwisely went for the big drive against the turn, gets an inside edge, and that deflects off Dhoni left thigh and the ball sits up for Kohli at leg slip, the Indians go up in appeal, Akmal not waiting for the umpire's verdict, over to Misbah for the rescue act again 56/3
Lord Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I remember Kohli snapping up Kamran Akmal at leg slip in the CT. oh but that was off an inside edge off Dhoni's gloves.thats hardly what legslip is there for
Crookbond Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 oh but that was off an inside edge off Dhoni's gloves.thats hardly what legslip is there for For an off spinner like Ashwin, the round the wicket angle + leg slip almost prevents the batsman from playing the leg glance for a single which in turns makes the carrom ball for potent and brings the LBW in picture as well.
GrandMasterSaxy Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I am myself a leg spinner and prefer second slip, gully, point and leg slip.
Shunya Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 so CG is back with his usual Dhoni threads...
CG Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 For an off spinner like Ashwin' date=' the round the wicket angle + leg slip almost prevents the batsman from playing the leg glance for a single which in turns makes the carrom ball for potent and brings the LBW in picture as well.[/quote'] We are talking about legslip to fast bowlers .
