coffee_rules Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 How much lead is good enough for India? India is chasing in the 4th innings. In Shastri speak - bat once and bat big. Or bat the 2nd innings score in the first . We should get atleast 180-190 another 60-70 runs to feel safe. We can still chase about 150 odd. It is still good to bat for a session for India. Get that big score. Angry at Vijay and Pujara for throwing their wicket like that. Vijay's was pre-meditated. He jumped out even before the ball was released and he was able to change the line in the last sec. Pujara was trying to be overconfident and cheeky. He can never play that shot in test cricket. He's no Sachin. Others were at least foxed by the bowler.
Sidhoni Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Pujara was trying to be overconfident and cheeky. If anyone other than him played that shot, people would have gone mad.
Laaloo Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 200 is enough. Windies aren't making more than 250 in the 2nd innings.
fineleg Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 If anyone other than him played that shot' date=' people would have gone mad.[/quote'] True - since ChePu is normally careful batsman, this is being forgiven in this one instance. Normally this is Sehwag like stupidity in Test cricket. Regarding "safe lead", we need to factor in Gayle and a few aggressive WI batsmen. They can score a quick 70 or 80 and so we do need buffer.
zep1706 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 If anyone other than him played that shot' date=' people would have gone mad.[/quote'] That's because he has been super consistent. Even yesterday he looked to be in great touch before he got out. Everyone makes a mistake once in a while, if he had gotten that ball over the slips it would have been hailed as a great shot.
saneindian Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Given the situation we were in, will happily take 120 run lead we have now. Some poor shots were played but that can happen in the 1st batting innings of a series. Hopefully the mistakes will be corrected in the 2nd innings

Not when it was sailing towards you over the head. It was a wrong shot.

Sachin does that in the subcontinent and overseas. When the ball is sailing towards the head, Sachin never played a shot. He did though overseas at Perth 2007 BANUN31y2zY
fineleg Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 ^ yep srt or sehwag do it is for off stumpish - not for middle stump - ChePu messed it lol :) Well sehwag does plenty of other stupidity regularly :D
vvvslaxman Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 150 i would take.. that is 30 from now. If Ashwin goes early and Rohit is forced to take risks we might see some fun and a pretty handy lead.
Laaloo Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 150+ is a very good lead on any pitch. No it was Tsotsobe
G_B_ Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 how about we aim to bat as much as possible? still about 270 overs remaining in this match
vvvslaxman Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 how about we aim to bat as much as possible? still about 270 overs remaining in this match Don't think India will make a conscious attempt to accelerate. Besides Ashwin by nature scores quicker. Rohit can accelerate anytime he wants. They just have to continue as long as it lasts. Keeping them on the field as long as possible is also essential.
Pagalpanti Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 200'ish.. WI will not make more than 250 on this pitch, Sachin can be sent along with Dhawan to knock those runs off..
vvvslaxman Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 200'ish.. WI will not make more than 250 on this pitch' date= Sachin can be sent along with Dhawan to knock those runs off.. They could be 250 for no loss for all we know. They are good batsmen.. just lack a bit of temperament. They are capable of dominating us for couple of sessions.

Aim to play out a session is what they will do and then some more. BK is also not a muck, so they will play until Shami bats and then accelerate.
Shane Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Lead by 180, We get them all out for 210, We win by 9 wickets
