What exactly does a bowler have to do to get MOM anymore?

83-5 sounds well and good but what baout first inning..what if shami did not get those wickets? they were 120-2 going strong with ojha again looking like he did against england ashwin the only bowler who was a threat being dealt with easily and bhuvi who will only be useful again after 80 overs they might have scored 400 and then pressure on us after 83-5 ..300 runs behind :winky:
Falls into the 'good contribution' area, but not really the performance that defined the match. Also, my main grudge is justifying it from the 'encouragement' angle and not out-and-out from the performance angle. The other thing is that Shami did not take too many top-order wickets which has been already pointed out.

Pressure was more when we were 83-5 than when WI were 120-2 as we are batting side.
yeah but pressure is never same while bowling .. in the end instances of bowlers picking 9 wicket haul in matches are much lower than batsmen scoring more than 150 runs :winky:

Match finished in almost 2.5 days, so it was a tough pitch for batsmen.

he did take out samules and opener in first inning.. what more do you want ? and in 2nd inning he was used in middle overs and you can bet he would have gotten any one as even chanders was struggling against him:cantstop: same middle order last year scored lots of runs nd i know they are strictly average but shami made them look worst then they are tbh

Hope he will get in future. I think Rohit probably was picked for completely batting West Indies out of the game alongwith Ashwin. Considering debut pressure they probably handed it to him instead of Ashwin. Scoreboard pressure also helped India to snuff West Indies out. That might have been their thought process

Shillingford looked as good, but he did not get to bowl twice. And yes, getting Samuels and the other opener (whose name u have forgotten) are surely match-defining moments :cantstop: See, Shami had a great match but 2 people stood between WI and India and the MOM should have been between them. Also, as mentioned before, he got only one out of the top 5 wickets in the 2nd innings, and even that decision was a wrong one. :P

Well deserved man of the match for Rohit. Great innings at the most crucial juncture of the game. You don't get man of the match awards just for the encouragement, unless you are Dhoni ofcourse. :winky:
:haha:... including his own encouragement..

oh hitting shillingford and rest of third string west indies bowling line up which even ashwin scored 100 against is beasty achievement :hail:

haha. you are such a hater of Rohit. Its certainly more beastly than getting tailenders of WI out, specially when your team is at 83-5.

Shillingford was really bowling well. Ask the Maharathis who got out to him. :--D I can guarantee you will hear Shillingford's name more often than Powell's in future.

He's hurt it seems. He can't come to terms with 386 vs 3. :cantstop:

he is next murali :hail: still your argument about batting being mediocre is not valid when bowling is equally bad :winky:

As india had remaining one whole inns the bowler deserved to be MOM. If Rohit didnt score that hundred, still we have one more inns to chase the total.

You need to contribute 33% consistently especially in a high profile knockout game in a Big tournament....Only legendary bowlers can pull that off
For argument sake, Shami produced 45% :cantstop:

These same legendary bowlers can, in a benevolent mood, at times also contribute 10% of opposition runs in a single over :((
