jonas10 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 No doubt Rohit came in when India were in a vary precarious situation and helped guide them to victory. Even if India were bowled out for 200 in the first innings they would have still won the match on the back of Shamis great bowling. It appears that 150 is now a magic number for batting in cricket. you hit that and a bowler can take 13 wickets and you will still get MOM. The so called experts should realize that as great as Rohit was its much harder to have a debut like Shami and take that many wickets. :sherlock:
nevada Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I would have declared Rohit and Shami as joint MOM.
Vilander Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 the reasoning it seems is that if he had not hit that 170 india would have folded foor under 300 and WI buoyed by their good bowling would have put a spirited batting performance leaving india with 250 odd to chase in 5th day wicket which could have been much more challenging. But if 'if and buts' were... so i think its because Shami is not from mumbai.
Old guy Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 But if it was not for shami west Indies would have scored 350 in first inning and 300 in 2 nd :dontknow:

It had to be either Ashwin or Shami.
helperononline Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 should have given mom to shami encourages bowler
vvvslaxman Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Rohit could have given it to him. but again he is also on his debut.. would love to cherish the moment. I understand bowlers not being given MOM in one dayers often as they have limited to scope to get that. But in Tests.. he should have got. Even today against Pakistan. De **** got the MOM not Steyn.
Sean Bradley Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 SHould have been a joint MOM between Rohit & SHami.

maniac Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Have to bowl brilliantly in a knockout of a major icc tourney /thread
King Tendulkar Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Shami should have been mom Shocking not to give it to shami. No wonder in India most choose to become batsman
Crookbond Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I don't think Shami was even in the picture to get the MOM by teh adjudicators. It was either Rohit or Ashwin. bhogleharsha: the mom award yesterday was a very close call between ashwin & rohit in the commentary team. might have been a vote or two separating them

saneindian Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 List of MoS and MoMs in Home tests in India since 2007- Dada was the MoS vs Pak in 2007 (MoMs were Kumble, Jaffer, Dada) Bhajji was the MoS vs SA in 2008 (MoMs were Sehwag, ABDV and Dada) Ishant was given the MoS during Border Gavaskar Trophy (MoMs - Zaheer, Dhoni, VVS, Krejza) Zaheer was the MoS vs Eng in 2008 - (MoMs - Sehwag, Gambhir) Sehwag was the MoS vs SL in 2009 - (MoMs - Jaya, Sreesanth, Sehwag) Amla was MoS vs SA in 2010 - won both the MoMs Sachin was the MoS vs Aus in 2010 - (MoMs Zaheer and Sachin) Bhajji was the MoS vs NZ in 2011 (MoMs - Bhajji, Mccullum, Dravid) Ashwin was the MoS vs WI in 2011 (MoMs - Ashwin, VVS, Ashwin) Ashwin was the the MoS vs NZ in 2012 (MoMs- Ashwin, Kohli) Cook was the MoS vs Eng in 2012 (MoMs- Pujara, KP, Cook, Anderson) Ashwin was the MoS vs Aus in 2013 (MoMs- Dhoni, Pujara, Dhawan, Jadeja) Have highlighted the bowlers who have won a MoS or MoM in these home series. Doesn't look like any potential discrimination / bias against bowlers as is being said.

Number Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Well deserved man of the match for Rohit. Great innings at the most crucial juncture of the game. You don't get man of the match awards just for the encouragement, unless you are Dhoni ofcourse. :winky:

You don't get man of the match awards just for the encouragement, unless you are Dhoni ofcourse. :winky: +1. I am not being able to understand the logic of giving the MOM for encouragement. The MOM would often go to the most outstanding performance of the match - and a 'contrarian' view is often taken; if the pitch favours bowlers, an outstanding batting performance is rewarded or vice-versa. Here someone scores 177 (which is incidentally more than what the whole of WI scored together in their second innngs), when the team was at 83/5 and was under pressure of conceding a reasonable first innings lead. That innings defines the match and makes sure that India is surely in the leader's position. I can still understand if there is a clamour for Ashwin, because his performance has been as good. But why should Shami win the MOM for encouragement? He surely bowled brilliantly, it was a great contribution, but was surely not the defining performance of the match that separated the two sides. Lastly, MOM adjudicators are supposed to use cold logic here - they are not supposed to make their decisions on the basis of 'what will encourage phaast bowling' in the country.
Old guy Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 83-5 sounds well and good but what baout first inning..what if shami did not get those wickets? they were 120-2 going strong with ojha again looking like he did against england ashwin the only bowler who was a threat being dealt with easily and bhuvi who will only be useful again after 80 overs they might have scored 400 and then pressure on us after 83-5 ..300 runs behind :winky:
