Trundler27 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Even though this is a superb achievement for us, I hope to someday see us win 5 consecutive away tests (preferably including some of those outside the sub-continent)..... maybe a pipe dream considering our historical record but that's an ICF..... eternal optimist
FischerTal Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I think we'll do good. I don't think Kohli will do much. but I do think Rohit and Pujara will stand out. And hopefully no Ishant this time to screw it up. We were doing so good at Cape Town last time until Dhoni decided to stop Sreesanth and Ishant decided to be Ishant. Don't jinx Che :whack:

G_B_ Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 time to use the awesome power of the bcci to scare CSA into making really good wickets. Speaking of SA, one of the tests is in durban. SA dont have a good record there v Asian teams of late. I would not be writing india's chances off just now. At Durban i remember even Sree doing a lot of damage. By avoiding Newlands the BCCI have given India a good chance of drawing the series. Smith is injury prone. He keeps missing games. I somehow doubt he will last the entire series.

saneindian Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 The problem for us is the total lack of practice matches. Young test squad, with only Dhoni having the experience of a test in SA. Ideally with a young squad, we should be giving them 3-4 practice matches for acclimatisation. But obviously BCCI doesn't care.

G_B_ Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 and speaking of India winning tests in a row. One of the reasons India has such a poor win loss ratio in test cricket is that we kept producing pitches which were flat so that state associations could end up charging people for 5 days cricket. The main reason why India conduct white washes at home is because we have started to not care about the match lasting so long. You can thank the BCCI admins of the 70s and 80s for that.

Talking of that test experience, I think Raina also has played a test there . Scoring runs, taking wickets, hit a FC 100 for India A in SA. One more good knock and who knows ... :nervous: Zaheer and Bhajji are both an option as is Gambhir, all depends on wether Patil & Co. want to go back to them or keep blooding newbies as has been their policy for sometime.

Gambhir is the only option for a backup opener right now. As for Raina, he'll be back at No. 6 pretty soon.

I wanted Gambhir to be the captain around NZ series last year. But now personally, I would like Gambhir to stay away from the Indian team. Since the time he has gone team is doing well, dressing room seems conflict free and happy. Those negative vibes that he brings are the last thing we should have in a young building team. But if he performance for Delhi and makes his case then he deserves the spot in squad.
