Should they scrap Ranji Trophy?

No Spectator goes to look except few matches here and there when there is big star playing the game and recently last few years performances in Ranji matches are not take in to consideration, Player like Pankaj Singh, Ishwar Pandey, Ashok Maneria, Kedar Jadhav have done everything required in these matches ans still not get selected on the other side you have Jadeja, Mohit Sharma and few others get in straight in to Indian team without any decent performance. I feel for Pankaj Singh this guy must have bowl his heart our every time I have seen him and now also he has decent speed, accuracy and can bowl for long period but he is not even get selected in A team, Classic case of "KARMA" theory going wrong.

Pankaj Singh has to somehow try and join :csk:. After that he'll definitely get selected in the seniors team... Also he needs to bowl trundling speed so as not to hurt Dhobi's wicket keeping hands... Lastly he needs to sign up in Rhiti sports..

On the whole there have been quite a few improvements in domestic cricket, teams are a bit more competitive and minnow teams in the past are now making good teams fight it out, better talent coming thru with IPL, EXPOSURE , A TOURS AND U19, better grounds and wickets still a lot to be done but Ranji cricket is not that bad, Pankaj is not being selected as BCCI has issues with RCA and in that aspect yes it sucks same for Bihar which is not recognized by BCCI, WE ARE GETTING SOME BETS TALENT AROUND THRU THIS SYSTEM FOR SOME REASON BUT THEY COULD DO MORE FOR BOWLERS AND NURTURING AND SELECTING THE RIGHT ONES, ALSO WITH THE UNCAPPED PLAYER BEING PUT INTO THE AUCTION POOL FOR IPL WILL BE ONE MORE POSITIVE.

Ranji is actually pretty good now. I think they are playing on a variety of surfaces. Was watching Haryana vs Punjab a true green pitch. It was seaming and swinging. They also some wickets that help spinners. Bcci should be commended here they have done a great job. They have helped domestic players to get experience on all kind of pitches and pay is increased for them as well.

We shld reduce the no of teams in ranji trophy. For eg maharashtra has 3 teams while gujarat has 2 teams andhra has 2 teams. Once we trim down the no the competition & standard of cricket will improve drastically.

Guj has 3 teams... Saurashtra Gujarat and Baroda. Problem with you trimming down is. How is a boy from Viderbha for example expected to make it into a mumbai team? India IMO has enough population to sustain standard in all the teams. Otherwise huge sections of the country will have no ranji outlet. The solution is 40 teams and better infrastructure to support them produce talent.

i said decade, over a decade we have also lost to aus, sa at home so no i havent forgotten, i picked the two (in my opinion) lowest phase during this time. Now lets look at the response. kicked out in 1st round at 07 WC to winning in 4years & No 1 ODI side. Lets see how we respond to all the test loss, yes we have won the last 6 test matchs but the real test for this young team starts in SA. Everyone expects hiccups but i think we will come out as a winning team in a years time. I agree every player should know his role but we question selections , captains call etc based on articles, blogs, post on this forum, IPL clips which i find amusing. Look at this ridiculous thread scrap Ranji ? and look at the reason because no spectators goto watch games and ranji performance are not considered. Yup Rohit, Dhawan, Jadeja, Sami, Bhuvi etc all were selected to play for india because they belong to rhiti sports and not because even the likes of Jadeja who comes at 7 scored triple 100s to win that spot. I am glad Dhoni was persisted with as captain even after losing 8-0 if not for him we would have had a young captain like Kohli with no clue what to do or worst gambhir who wouldnt even deserve a spot in playing XI. Instead we are on path to rebuilding.

I was talking about selectors not administrators. I am assuming if Dhoni is sacked as captain even today should be fine by you. Even the biggest critics of Dhoni wont drop him as a players from ODI , so lets talk about test would you drop him from test side ? Also name players selected for SA who arent there on merit ?

Atleast Dhoni won series in NZL and WI.

Buddy, Dhoni is reaping the fruit from tree that Ganguly raised. Ganguly took over when we were bottom of the cricketing countries with no away test win for 10-12 years foget series wins. under him were were able to win test in Aus 03 after the gap of 15-20 years and were were the dominating side in that series, we had few other good series where we won test matches outside against dominating team at that time, we won a test match in End in the 04, won a series in Pakistan. Again this is not a comparison thread its proven that Dhoni is a defensive captain who does not take calculated risk, just go by the script, lacks imagination picking side and making changes during the games, we were winning home series in even in the worst period in 90s so no big achievement there. every one knows we are lions at home and lambs away, at least during the Ganguly period we sort of eliminated that phrase only to return back in Dhoni period.
