Sandeep99 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I think yuvraj is the best for middle order, he is a true player, and he has a power to win any match in any condition. My order is 1 dhavan 2 rahane 3 rohit 4 virat 5 yuvraj 6 suresh raina 7 dhoni :omg: Tell me you're kidding :omg::finger:
King Tendulkar Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I dont think it matters to much who is 4, 5 or 6. Its up to the guys to make the runs.

mancalledsting Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 although I think no.4 and no.5 are the best suited long term positions for Kohli and Rohit respectively, I feel that Rahane will be useless at 6 as by the time he bats himself in, the tail woold already be blown away. I'm also not sure if he has that extra gear to accelerate when he gets lumbered with the tail- then again I think during Australia's 2008 tour of India he scored a destructive century batting from 3
jusarrived Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I really hope before Rahane/Virat/Rohit come to bat atleast 20-25 overs are bowled ...our Top3 need to play out a lot of overs if India are to put a good score . The scoring gets really easy in the later part , that's when we need these 3 playing .

Top 3 are the most difficult positions to bat in SA.
CG Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Agree. That is why I do not want Pujara at 3 rather 5. Top 3 are the most difficult positions to bat in SA. Thats why pujara should bat at no 3 not 5 ,he is most suited to handle the task rather than kohl, rohit Batting order should be Pujara Rohit Kohli Rahane Dhoni. .

No batsmen can handle such attack on these pitches against new ball. You have more chances of failure than success. Neither I want Rohit or Kohli at 3. They should be at 4, 5, 6. There is a reason Dravid does not have a great record in SA despite equipped with a great technique and despite playing some great knocks, he still averages less than 40 in SA because you will have more low scores than big scores against quality attacks who knows how to bowl on these pitches.

Remember once, Bradman reversed the batting order to combat pitch. It is good to be brave but I believe in being unorthodox sometimes and surprise the opposition. Likes of Pontng have born and brought up on such tracks in Aus but for SC teams, those are alien conditions which they are not used to, so that comparison does not stand. Even Ponting averages 46 in SA. Our best batsmen should bat at 4-5-6.

Also I think their are certain batsman like sehwag and rohit that you can throw anywhere in the order and it won't effect them mentally, to go from batting in the top 3 at near the start of the innings in domestic cricket to all of a sudden batting at number 6 vs dale steyn and morkel in south africa near the end of the innings is a big difference. But he is probably only in squad as a back of batsman. Dhoni likes having a part time bowlers which is why raina and yuvi had gotten so many chances in tests. Dhoni has yet to bowl rohit or dhawan in test matches so he probably doesn't have much faith in them. Zaheer khan, umesh yadav and b kumar might struggle bowling long spells. Even shami might struggle because of the lack of reverse swing in south africa. But if they are all bowling short spells they can all be pretty deadly on south african wickets.
Ram Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 My batting order - Dhawan Pujara XXX Kohli Rohit Vijay MSD Aswhin Bhuvi Zak Umesh
I6MTW Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 My batting order - Dhawan Pujara XXX Kohli Rohit Vijay MSD Aswhin Bhuvi Zak Umesh and why is vijay in the middle order? and who will that 'xxx' be?
Ram Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 and why is vijay in the middle order? and who will that 'xxx' be? Think M.Vijay has the potential to be a test a class batsmen, but he is not test class opener, especially in bouncier conditions abroad. The closest parallel I can draw is that of Shane Watson, who was Aussie hoped against hope would succeed as opener, but then reality set in and they moved him to the middle order. Also feel Pujara/Dhawan is the perfect opening combination to open in South Africa. Pujara has the technique to blunt the pace attack from one end, while Dhawan has the attacking game to unsettle the quicks from the other. Who comes in at no.3? Don’t know. I actually thought Abhinav Mukund showed a lot of promise before he was summarily discarded. Looks like Rahane is above him in the pecking order. However, all of this talk is pretty much irrelevant. MSD has already indicated Vijay/Dhawan is our opening combination, which I think is a mistake. You cant have 2 opening batsmen with similar vulnerabilities against pace on bouncy pitches and hope for good outcomes.

So either he will be useful in the top order or he won't be useful at all. Shane Watson actually started his career in the middle order iirc correctly, whereas Vijay has always been an opener.

Do me a favor and the check Vijay's batting position in the first test series he played.
