beetle Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Thank God, they have banned the prenatal gender discerns using ultrasonography. Preference of male child still exists. My brother says that still people are trying to find out the sex of the fetus in his hospital and ready to pay extra money. Mostly by pregnant lady's in-laws, even parents in some cases. The sad part is, even the ladies prefer male child, and agree to abort. I mean wtf, now a days girls are the ones who care most for the parents and never try to give up on them, not the boys. I have seen many guys who never care for their parents, but very very few girls do that. In my opinion...most of this would be sorted out if Indian parents paid more attention to plan their retirement than planning their kids shaadis. They won't let girls and boys mingle,want to select and control who they want their kids to marry and have shaadis beyond their means instead of letting kids mature and taking their own decision. If they plan their retirements better...they wouldn't be killing girls so that they can have sons to invest for their buddhapa.

They think boys have less maintenace and carry the family legacy.

We ve camped in many villages around coimbatore, palakkad and theni, many villagers prefer boys, but they don't kill girl babies. Instead they just produce babies until they get a boy. :giggle: In cities, where many families are budget oriented, they prefer just one child and think that they can't afford that one to be a girl. Many people (including the article) saying that most villages are sexists. Yes, they are but they aren't as harmful as the city people. They just have these predefined opinions, but the educated city people, who have a lot of awareness, are harmfully sexists. Domestic violence is less in villages compared to urban areas. just my opinion

The thing in most villages is that, people have thier relatives nearby, so problems will get solved sooner as they talk it out. The village movie cliches aren't true anymore.

Apart from the female infanticide point, most violence occurs because of the insecurity of the man or his family. If the woman goes out to study,it is a problem. If she earns its a problem. If she earns more than the guy it is a problem. If she doesn't get dowry it is a problem. If she talks to other people it's a problem. Since in villages these things hardly happen, and women don't even have a voice, these things would be lessor

I don't know the percentage though. when compared to urban, less violence in villages like in birbal's line story. May be I m wrong, since I have seen only western TN villages like coimbatore, pollachi etc., where women have more voice. Some just shouted at their husbands, to say the truth and stop lying.

Some just shouted at their husbands, to say the truth and stop lying. i m frm western TN and my opinion is also similar.. women here gets equal share of their property too .. i dont think women have more voice than men , but in my memory my father is no where closer to bossing our home..:giggle:
