G_B_ Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Why is it not worthwhile to compare with Russia? Because some of our citizens love bending to the US and going against their own citizens? Can you give me the reason? a slave mentality that why. I think many Indians who are fresh of the boat probably want to prove that they are well integrated.
randomGuy Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 a slave mentality that why. That exists but you have applied tht in a wrong case buddy.
The Outsider Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 this has feck all to do with national pride. Incase you did not know, the Indian consulate in New York and embassy in Washington handle the intelligence networks of RAW and IB. Ie many international missions from India, such as ONGC securing fields of oil in Venezuala have attaches of these two agencies whose staff are based there. Ie that consulate and embassy carry very sensitive information. In such cases its a matter of national security, you cannot have your diplomats treated in such a way. If India had not reacted the way it did nothing was stopping the CIA from using such arrests to corner diplomats into divulging information in the future. I dont care if Khobragade asked Sangeeta Richards to eat her ****. She should not have been arrested. She should have been deported to India where she should have stood on trial for her actions. Only a naive person views things from a moral viewpoint. Feck morals and you can quote me on that. International relations are based primaly on gauging how your opponent/entity responds. The US certainly has selective morals in its international policy. Attacking Syria for human rights and keeping mum on Bahrain. Before the falkland wars Thatcher was actually thinking of giving away the islands to Argentina as they were a ***** to maintain. But once Argentina attacked she did not hold back? Why ?? perception. Had Britain not responded the country would appear to be weak. You roll over then the world will think your push overs. I have already posted the article regarding the daughter of a senior Indian diplomat being wrongfully arrested. Had India made the hoo ha of it back then today Khobragade would simply have been deported. This is what happens when you dont fight for your right. You come across as weak and more incidents happen. Firstly, she was not a diplomat but a deputy counsel and not subject to the same immunity that diplomats have. But regardless, I don't have many problems with what India did. What I am saying is that given the kind of corrupt, lying, and exploiting person she is, I have zero sympathy for what happened to her because there is a fat chance of zero that she would have been brought to justice in India.

Simultaneously (around the same dates) we also had Russian consular staff also implicated in the medicare scam. They were given diplomatic immunity. So i dont buy she had no diplomatic immunity. If anything those charges were more serious than what Kavita is facing. For the record, when i read about her role in the adarash scam, i actually wished she was deported and she faced a life in Indian jails. I too have 0% sympathy for her. But India has had one innocent school girl and one lying ***** now arrested. Both in the new york area in the past 2-3 years. I dont want that to become the precedent or the trend. That is all. I would be much happier had India make this sort of noise in the case of the innocent school girl. That poor girl had her life wrecked because of phoney accusations
Crookbond Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Meanwhile, Indian diplomats and MEA are pushing the Finance Ministry to make maids as full time employees of the MEA and hence, pay the maids from tax payers money. :hysterical:
G_B_ Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 India should pay for the maids. The fundamental fact in all of this is as mentioned by me New york washington and London. These three places for India are extra critical due to the intelligence which is confined within these desks. You do not want the local maids to work for them. Thats route 101 for state secrets getting out. Its a known fact that India does use the indian caucus "friends of india" to lobby to push forward its interests and counter say pakistani propaganda for example. Lobbying involves working in the grey. The money is dispensed via these consulates and embassies. Pay for having Indian maids and obviously ensure they are well paid and actually employees of the Indian government. People need to stop viewing these people with jealously. They are critically important to the way India gathers information. They need to focus on their jobs rather than worry about domestic affairs.

That means she's the one doing the paperwork for issuing passports, renewing passports for the Outsiders, etc.
seedhi Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 She was part of Consular staff. That means she's the one doing the paperwork for issuing passports' date=' renewing passports for the Outsiders, etc.[/quote']:hysterical::hysterical: She was the acting Consul General and Director level officer for sure. Her job was to promote India economic, social and cultural interests. That is far above the clerical work you are assuming. For example just weeks before her unlawful arrest she has made the case for India's approach to intellectual property rights for pharmaceutical industry, at an event organized by the US Chamber of Commerce. That's her job - to engage various sections of US society and industry from an Indian perspective.

And if she was what kind of exploitation was she subjected to. From my understanding the problem was maid was residing in her house, which technically means she was subject to 24 X 7 pay. Technically the maid might have been right. But did she work 24 X 7. Obviously not. So this part is what remains - which will define whether she was exploited or not.

Do your own bloody work. Or if you want hire somebody paying local wages and adhere to local labor laws. Simple ! Obviously the dumb Indian Govt as always, is oblivious to local laws. I did not expect anything better. As I have said before, it was a good thing this happened. It brought to the fore many things that were being done wrong, by both sides.

So it is not just an Indian govt thing.
EnterTheVoid Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 So please tell me why each and every US citizen, diplomat or not, criminal or not, is provided full protection of the US? Even murderers like Raymond Davis? Why do they believe that it is US and only US who has the authority to prosecute them and not other countries? Please tell me why, when this happens, each and every citizen of the united States, whether resident or non resident, stands united and supports their country men while in India, some citizens and some NRIs have this itching to bend over backwards as soon as the name of US is invovled? No self respecting country will allow one of it's citizens to be prosecuted by a different country. There are ample examples of Russia, Brazil, etc. Let alone a diplomat But I am sure as usual, you will ignore this core issue (protecting one's citizens in a country's primary responsibility over prosecuting a criminal). If a diplomat is a criminal, the host country cannot prosecute, it is the country of origin which can prosecute But please ignore this, pretend this is something unique to India and not something every self-respecting nation does (What is unique to India is some of it's citizens having no pride in the country and bending over backward as soon as someone mentions US and US laws) Citing X,Y and Z does not change the fact that she committed visa fraud and exploited her maid. You may have a soft spot for such low lives but I have no issue in seeing such people being persecuted to the full extent of the law.
Muloghonto Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 You may like to misrepresent the facts but there was no exploitatipn of the maid Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2
EnterTheVoid Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Absolutely. The maid was just imagining everything and we all brought into her c0ck and bull story hook, line and sinker.
Muloghonto Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Agreeing to a contract that is well paying for ur society doesnt become exploitatuon by changing nation of residence Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2
EnterTheVoid Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Absolutely. Three dollars per hour, can't believe someone would complain over such a handsome pay rate.
Muloghonto Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 More than sufficient maids salary in india. Just because her job was in us doesnt make it exploitation, since her contract is signed at above market rate in india, meant for expenditure in india Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2
EnterTheVoid Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Yea, you try living in the US on a grand sum of three dollars per hour. Than, we will talk.
seedhi Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 The maid was provided free food, home, clothing, medicine, health insurance, entertainment etc - practically all expenses were met. Further, it is only a claim by the maid that she was not paid minimum wage. Let us not take it as the truth.
Muloghonto Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Housing, food provided for. That makes for $3 per hour of disposable income. 90% of north american students live on less disposable income. I certainly didnt have 25 bucks a day in university to spend on non food and rent for six years Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2
