While playing backfoot shot, ideally your back foot should come on off stump. That is what is known as copy book style. I have not seen any player other than Sachin Tendulkar whose back foot always comes to the offstump in modern day cricket. Watching the square cut of Dravid has been the most beauitiful display of batting just because his backfoot moves so quickly but lately he also had stopped moving his back foot while playing on side strokes like pull.Tendulkar was the only one who has been consistent. Most of the Oldies like Amarnath, Gavaskar, Vishwanath all had solid back foot technique. I guess it was the introduction of Ganguly and Sehwag which changed the batting style of moderna day Indian batsmen and brought us to the era where you can succeed without foot movement.

Good point there. The norm these days, is to stay outside the line of the ball and play. Guys like Sehwag have made a lot of runs with this kinda technique. Even Dhawan or Vijay play the same way. But, this also leaves you in a fix as it tends to make you open the face of the bat. Also, you are not fully aware of where your offstump is because of this.

his technique is not as problematic as raina, and watch him closerly, he plays like ponting. ponting was good with this thumping pulls, if virat can do that, then he will achieve success.

You can Pull if the ball is around middle-leg. He has a slight issue with short balls just around or outside off stump which is going away. Obviously his technique isnt as bad as Raina's, just a minor chink which he can correct over time.

Kohli having played far too many ODIs , will have trouble leaving the ball outside the off stump. But he has to make a conscious effort of it. You don't have to prove your dominating batting skill in all conditions. Tendulkar also struggled in Kingsmead test. He did well only in capetown.If the conditions are juicy and bowlers are on top, bide your time

Kohil does not have technical deficiency against fast bowling. His only weakness is good length outswinger on off stump (most batsmen are weak here though) but compared to the rest of his strong game Kohli is comparitively weaker. He can resolve this problem by leaving- but this is so difficult against steyn and philander as they bowl tight into the stumps.

It is wrong to go after both Kohli and Cullinan. Kohli getting exposure to various conditions augur well for future even if he fails. For the record Dravid averaged 15 on his very first tour to Australia. Hope everyone learns something. Kohli's problem is not technical. it is more to adapt himself to Tests. Even at home he is struggling to find the right tempo, right approach.

Raw pace? Even Bhajji is good. Class swing bowling will trouble even the best. From Clarke to Cook. Dravid is the only one i have seen playing Swing far and above many players at his best. You need a bit of luck against guy like Steyn when he gets his outswing going at pace. It is like facing a charge up Lion in its own den.

Temperament is very very vital. Brad Haddin proved it. But if you are going to be afraid of bouncer and afraid of coming forward and poking one to slip then no technique can save you because you don't move your feet because you are terrified to come forward.
