Well Groomed now. He should have batted first down. I hope he gets to bat higher, unless he himself doesn't want to is a different thing. But if he likes to bat up, which I am sure he does, he should be given that slot 3.

He's doing a very good job at 5. Batting at 5 is not easy in some ways; the tail may get exposed and you need to be able to block/score fast. Rahane has a wide variety of skills, and he's doing well at 5. If Chepu rediscovers his mojo, I'd rather have him back at 5. If not, it would be better to groom someone like Vihari for that 3 position, and leave Jinks at 5.

Hasn't scored much today or batted much but people are already feeling he looks nervous, My personal view on him is like that of Pujara. He is the deal. He is actually better than Rohit Sharma and a lot of other players who look great but aren't actually the best players in the country. This is not anything against Rohit, but I feel we should be grooming Rahane and giving him a long rope in test cricket, regarldess of how he fare here. I am not sure how much he will make today or later, but even Pujara got lot of chances on his first tour to South Africa and eventually he was considered as the future prospect. I feel Rahane should be dealt in similar way. He might not look great like Rohit or Kohli, but he got it in him for test cricket. I am a big Rahane fan. and feel he is one of the best in the country who isn't given much attention. He is the deal guys. Give him few innings.

Dont let looks fool you. He has some serious steel. Just has to curb his attacking instinct sometimes.

I'd rather have Rahane at #3 since we have no such wall anymore and groom chepu for #5.

This is diff from the 2000s where we had Laxman at 5 and Ganguly at 6 (or the other way around). Hence, if Rahane moves to 3, our order becomes top-heavy (Vija, Jinks and Kohli all in top 4) and the lower order will be a farce.
