express bowling Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Why is Finn not playing? He is their best bowler on these tracks. Extra bit of bounce at some killer speeds. Englands Mitchell Johnson :nervous: Finn was not bowling in the 140s , the last time I saw him. Mostly 135 to 140 k. I think he bowled 140 to 150 k in just 1 season. But, be that as it may, he should be tried in A situation where the existing pacers, apart from Broad, are failing.
ravishingravi Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Cause they have done an Irfan Pathan with his action.
express bowling Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I feel since the day Botham retired they are continuously trying to find a replacement. Mark Eahlem' date=' Dominic Cork and what not. Only Flintoff came close.[/quote'] Very true. But the thought process behind their team selection has been too complicated and ineffective for a better part of the last 25 years.
express bowling Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Maybe because those who have played international cricket for sometime know that 'pace' alone is not everything in test cricket? There was an article recently on CI which said he's had to change his action due to frequent number of times he hit the stumps in his delivery stride and that he's been struggling for pace and rhythm and has not been confident. Same article talked about some more changes in action to become an outswing bowler. Obviously there are issues and pace alone cannot get you into a test squad. In a way its good for him, will get picked when he's confident, else could lose his test 15 spot Think its a little similar to the phase Umesh is going through. Both are young, will come through soon. Long career ahead of them. People who have actually played international cricket give far more importance to pace than many ICF posters. Listen to any past player and, unless he is Indian, pace of a seamer is given a LOT of importance. Even spinners like Warne and Symcox seem more enthusiastic when a pacer is bowling quick. They are continuously pointing out how much more difficult it is to play when someone is bowling 140 k + or is getting steep bounce. Finn's ability to bowl quick in this series is perhaps under question. He was bowling much slower recently. I doubt that Finn would have been benched if his team was sure that he would be really quick.

U mean morons like arun lal,L.s .U see any body with some class like ganguly, dravid, sunny all keeop on harping about pace.Be it english, aussie,sa, cricketers and commies all the talk is about pace.We indian fans do this as we never had any fast bowers but now we have so no point in such lame excuses.
vvvslaxman Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Finn is "discovering" himself something like that. That is what they say.
CG Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 Finn is "discovering" himself something like that. That is what they say. More like discovering Australia.
vvvslaxman Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 At this point they focus more on batting. That is where they get exposed. If bowling if Andu, Swann, Broad (their main bowlers) couldn't do odds are others may not help as well. But collective failure of batting is causing them huge problems.

Yeah. Many Indian past players may have downplayed the importance of pace because we did not have anybody bowling quick apart from Srinath. Itwas a defense mechanism . Things will change now. Frankly, all we hear from past players is pace and pace whenever seam bowling is discussed. Anybody who has actually played with a deuce ball at any level, knows how difficult it is to play when the ball moves at pace or is accurate at pace. It is so much more simple to dismiss pace from the comfort of our sitting rooms.
Ram Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 it is quite obvious that none of Finn-Tremlett-Rankin are not anywhere close to being Ashes-fit. What probably happened was the Pommie selectors sat down before the tour to pick the squad and saw the names of these three massive 6'8 guys and said 'Well, we need our quicks to be big and intimidating..lets just pick 'em..' They tried to implement this hilarious theory by picking up Tremlett in Adelaid with the hope (or delusion) that he might be able to recreate some of his previous magic, but came out a cropper. Now they dont want to further embarrass themselves by picking any more of these guys. But in all honesty, the case of Finn is very unfortunate. Unlike Tremlett, Finn can be genuinely fast - I mean, 91, 92 mph fast. I have seen him bully batsmen with his pace and bounce in ODIs, which is always the surest sign a fast bowler has something in him. It is very sad to see him warm the benches like this.
vvvslaxman Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Boyd Rankin always looks like huffing and puffing after 3 or 4 overs lol. Don't know if he can last 20 over spell in heat
maniac Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Finn kept knocking the stumps in his run up...they tried to alter it and apparently has been real bad in the county season(dont follow English county so please feel free to add)-Got this info from cric info podcast. Wont be surprised if he is a tundler now

Wont be surprised if he is a tundler now He still was quickest england bowler in the test he played in australia tour of england and his height is added bonus. He was the best bowler in the practice game and frankly if he was struggling they would not have picked him.
carnish Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Anderson is still their best bet after broad and needs to come good ... Dropping him now would mean serious questions about his future in the English side. .. Finn is terribly out of form, and I doubt how good Rankin is .. Tremlett did dissappoint and had it not been for Broad, this series would have been a bigger mismatch.
saneindian Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 BUMP Now you know why they are not being picked. Rankin cant even bowl 10 overs in the day. Limped off the field again. Maybe they were not fit enough?

Maybe they were not fit enough? what? hamstring injuries are common .Finn should have been the fist choice and rankin pulled a hammy after sitting the whole tour .
