Ram Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I have been skiing every winter for the past 3 years now. Accidents are actually quite commonplace (mostly people falling over or crashing into each other.). Some of these look pretty ominous real time, but almost all of the time, you will see the people involved walking away unscathed. A handful of times, people do need medical attention, but it is mostly for injuries to your lower extremities (twisted ankle, hard fall on hip etc.). Very rarely have I seen somebody with a direct impact on the head. It says he was skiing on an unmarked slope, which can be dangerous because they do not have the protective netting or the warning signs that you’d normally find in a skiing trail.

Schumacher has been in an artificially induced coma for 18 days now. Doctors say that he has not yet recovered enough from his injuries to be woken up. Schumacher was put in coma in order to allow his brain to recover better from the injuries that he sustained in a low-speed ski accident on December 29. However, since he hasn't recovered as well as was expected, experts say that he may be committed to the coma for the rest of his life. Patients induced in coma are usually woken up in a week or two, however, Schumacher's condition remains critical and if woken up, he runs the risk of a brain haemorrhage. Scientists on Wednesday said that people with severe head injuries like the one that left Michael Schumacher in critical condition have permanently altered brains that make the victims more likely to become mentally ill and die prematurely. The most successful F1 racer in history, Schumacher, 44, fell while skiing at a ski resort in the French Alps on December 29. Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 He has been in medically induced coma for too long.Remember Jesse Ryder remained in medical coma for around a week or so.But for Michael it has been 3-4 weeks.what worries me is the lack of updates from his medical team.I also wonder whether the team was late in operating on him.
BlackMamba Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Skiing -- boy one of the most dangerous sports. I do, but only Green Slopes, just for fun. And at any time if I find I am losing control, I just sit down on the slope. I still remember, the 1st time I went skiing, we (me and my friend) took the basic lessons and we thought we were ready. We took a lift, at night. We did not know which slope we were taking the lift for. It happened to be one of the Black Slope lifts. We went up and realized that, but only way down was to ski down. We both started down. Somehow I made it down and fell down at the very bottom when I tried to stop. My friend did not show up for more than 30 mins. I got worried, went up again on the lift to see where he was. Finally a girl, who noticed we both were together, told me -- she saw my friend coming out of the woods near the turn (It was not a straight slope). Then I skied down again to him, falling like 4 times. Saw him walking down. I was relieved, we somehow managed to get down and we were both laughing at the experience. Then I realized gravity of the situation and asked him -- you went off the hill at that speed into the woods and down the slide slope?? You did not hit any trees? He replied - No. I replied back, do you know how lucky you are ? And we both realized how bad of a situation it could have been.
