I would give Dhawan and Rohit till the second test in England. However' date=' starting from the NZ tour Rahane should bat above Rohit, given he is clearly the more accomplished batsman as of now. If Rahane scores at 5, it might even make Rohit's job easier coming in with a cushion of more runs.[/quote'] Agree about change in batting position I will give them3 matches if they look totally clueless like rohit and till England if they show little glimpse @tics tbh dhawan will never look totally clueless not to mention steyn is inferior bowler to lefties imam disappointed in both but yeas dhawan has looked better than rohit

Pujara was hardly the batter he is today, when he started. Rahane's improvement does not even need pointing out. Playing Steyn and Morkel with authority in South Africa is not the same as playing well on a green top in Ranji or even playing quicks in a test in India. The difference is huuuge. I had read a report that Indian batters had practiced really hard under the guidance of Motu, on how to play in Africa and practicing playing short balls as well as leaving the ball outside the off stump. The technique against quicks, used by most Indians batters in this tour has been somewhat similar in intent although different in style and execution. The improvement in technique of all successful batters is for all to see.
Difference is huge but point is pujara improved without our coach and so dip rahane Why can't same great coach teach rohit who has actually been in the team the most so fletcher should have maximum time with him...

The first one dayer showed his aukat :cantstop: . He could neither touch nor leave it. He was perplexed througout that spell. Meanwhile Vijay looked so authrotiative' date=' never looked clueless in Tests.[/quote'] Rohit had been in SA for 48 hours. Vijay and other test specialists reached there a good 10-12 days before the 1st test. Can't really compare the two scenarios Rohit has been poor in this series but will not write him off based on this series alone

I really respect ur opinions but for how, long will we back them ? New Zealand series is given..what after that ? Don't u think others too deserve chance after 5 or 6 failures which equal to 10 innings
There was a similar clamour calling for Kohli to be dropped from the test squad in that Aus tour before the Perth test, he did turn it around. Lets be patient. Not everyone is going to score runs together in a series. Give them a run till the England tour, which I am sure they will get.

He did the same last tour as well . Was not sure about his off stump :hmmm: I am talking about technical aspects not about mental aspects.

He has enough chances now like he had in ODIs. He can turn it around in a matter of one series if he adjusts his technique. I never hoped that Rahane would do well. But he was absolutely brilliant getting behind Steyn's every delivery during his fiery spell. ROhit looked little unsettled against Steyn.

Show no improvement is it enough matches for now ? Not showing improvement is main point here...

In pretty much every inning leading up to that test, Kohli looked like scoring. He was just throwing it away at times. I remember him pulling Siddle and Hilfenhaus for four and then getting out to them. People were saying that he is playing like odi's and stuff. He was batting well, and never looked "out of place" Same thing happend in Windies tour. He looked good at times to Fidel Edwards, and then started trying to be too aggressive. . This is different. Rohit has looked shambles. Scored less run than some of the tailenders in South Africa on tour. Again, he is good enough to score run sin NZ and England and I hope he does, but people don't have to bring "If Kohli can get it, he can get another chance too" since Rohit has had the best luxury in that scenario than any other player ever to play for India.

Not really calling Motu great, bro. But, for the first time in his tenure, he has probably contributed something. I am not really saying that Pujara and co. are the products of Duncan's coaching ( they were good anyway ) but a couple of aspects in their technique used in this tour maybe as a result of working with him. All pupils in the same class do not get equal marks. It is a question of who can learn faster and has the ability to succeed. :winky:

In his first few tests before the Aussie tour, Kohli was actually too slow and did not play his natural game. Then he got frustrated and got out. He has been succeeding since he started playing more normally.

I don't buy this cos lunar a was same like this obvious Y he will, make minor changes away from home and rahane too was totally out of nick and fought his way back to form when he got decent run in ranjis and a tour otherwise he was regressing with team

I , personally, can see the slight changes in Kohli, Pujara , Vijay etc. technique in SAF. It is obviously needed to adjust to the different conditions and pitch types in SAF where there is more bounce and seam movement not to mention the much faster and bouncier pacers. The slight changes were not because they were playing badly in India. They were not trying to drive as much on the up, not commiting themselves on the front foot until the last minute, leaving more channel deliveries, playing the defensive strokes with softer hands, their foot movements were consistently more decisive, they were playing the hooks and pulls with more discretion etc. etc. If you think otherwise, I guess we have to agree to disagree on this issue.

As much as the overall contribution of Fletcher is minimal in his tenure, I've got to agree that the batting style of the batsmen in the series does have the Fletcher influence based on what I saw during his English tenure - really tight on off stump to the point of being dour and the preference to come on the front foot even when bowlers try to push you back.

Rohit's biggest problem I felt was that he had trouble judging line as well as length on this tour again pace. Dhawan did not have this issue. But, initially, he was not willing to adjust his playing style to SAF conditions. Later on, he did and looked better as a result. But could not largely cut out the risky shots like the successful batters.

There may have been general instruction about leaving the ball. Rohit used that strategy for a darting incoming delivery :cantstop:

Rohit's biggest problem is his front foot stride, which is non existent. Look at even short, successful batsmen like Tendulkar, Ponting, Gavaskar. They have huge front foot strides. Laxman did not, and firstly he was not a great but very good, and to compensate for it he used to play late and alongside the ball. Till date, Rohit for all his stroke play has shown neither quality. He is still youngish but time is ticking.

The last time we brought this up, fanboys went berserk on us.

The last time we brought this up' date=' fanboys went berserk on us.[/quote'] The thing with Rohit though is that his stroke play is so sublime, which some identify as tailunt, that there is a lot of basic ingredients to work with to correct technical flaws. Personally, I feel he will score much much more if he takes a leg stump guard or even outside and plays along the lines of Azhar, Chappell, or Laxman. His wrist play is not as strong as them but the more powerful bats make up for it today.

Rahane was successful with that leg stump guard.

And he isn't stuck in the crease while playing swing unlike Sharma. Rohit never had his front foot forward while he was up against Steyn in the ODIs. He was hanging back to deliveries that was mostly pitch in good/slightly full length out swingers. Some said that he had done well to survive that spell from Steyn whereas Kohli took a big stride forward straight away against Steyn and looked solid with that approach although he was beaten by some good out swingers.
