Or just planned fear mongering by Internet warrior. Common man has too many problems to worry about than your coffee table communalism vs secularism fights. He has seen an inept govt at the centre and is looking for alternative. Only alternative in place is BJP. I think fear mongers such as this are more of a threat to secular fabric of India than so called hindutva which can't even unite Hindus. If you think religious polarization isn't behind the current rise of Modi, it is you who needs to wake up and smell the coffee and probably venture out in real world instead of reading greatbong 24x7. The common man (poor and lower middle classes) has always been too occupied with subsistence issues, but it the middle class and above which is increasingly getting polarized in recent times. If is beyond ignorant to think that the irrational support that Modi gets by his countless bhakts both on the internet and IRL is just because of his development mantra. His core group of supporters are the chaddis who support an assertive Hindutva revival. Modi knows this and has repeatedly fallen back to assure this group by promising end to cattle slaughter (pink revolution) or the 75% remark or the revenge remark by Amit Shah. These were not targeted to the people who wants an efficient alternative government, they are just to polarize the electorate. In words of Subramanian Swamy - "Unite Hindus and Divide Muslims" is the tactic being employed in these elections.

If he cant converse with the masses in a language they are most comfertable with then he is at a disadvantage straight away. Nilekani speaks C++++ and Java. The most commonly spoken languages in Bangalore.

If a cleric meets a Congress leader -> pseudo-secularism, divisive vote bank politics, minority appeasement If a cleric meets an AAP leader -> pseudo-secularism, divisive vote bank politics, minority appeasement If a cleric meets a BJP leader-> development politics If a cleric says opt for the NOTA-> progressive cleric The double standard is frighteningly obvious. The fact is that a cleric has NO business telling his congregation who to and who not to vote for. The way to strengthen our democracy is to clip the wings of these clerics by limiting their political influence. Sadly, all the parties are guilty of just the opposite.

Without which he is banking on local legislators and ministers to campaign for him. In AAP he would be completely handicapped as it has no base in the city. Also I am really surprised how does he not know Kannada when he is born and brought up in Bangalore? Although his mother tongue is konkani, I dont know anyone who cannot speak Kannada in Karnataka whose mother tongue is Konkani.

Only in the last few years he has been busy being out of the state of UP being president on the BJP and being involved in national politics. Rajnath singh has been active in UP politics at a local level a long time before Sonia Gandhi. He has been CM and been part of BJP governments in the state of UP through the 90s. Sonia Gandhi is somebody from Delhi who just happened to have a constituency in UP. She has never been involved at a local level.

Ie these people believe in Namo the man than BJP the party (4) Those who support the BJP due to an alliance. Works both ways for the alliance party. (5) Those who are fed up of the Congress or Local parties and feel the BJP is the best option to vent their anger democratically. I think last election BJP hit rock bottom. So the 19% they polled nationally I think 15% was because of BJP the party and their core supporters and 4% was probably because of strong local leaders/ candidates. This time around i think the BJP will add 12% more to their vote share nationally. Probably 5% due to Modi and 5% due to the being fed up of local parties/congress ans 2% due to alliance. Especially in places like TN and AP. If that leads to seats its remains to be seen.

I never disagreed with that. Modi's rise in Indian politics can be attributed to a combination of the Hindutva vote + anti incumbency. That is why his election is looking almost inevitable now. But the core group of Modi supporters who are most loyal are the people who are with him because of his religious affiliation. This group didn't find anyone to rally around since Advani tempered his position deferring to Vajpayee. None of the party presidents or other candidates - Jaitley, Swaraj, Advani , Rajnath, Gadkari could energize this core group which has ideological affiliations with the RSS and argue for a more assertive Hinduism as opposed to Congress policies which they see as weak and pandering to minority voters.

Says a lot about integration issues. this is not an integration issue,urbestfriend is right in that ALMOST everybody who speaks konkani speaks kannada .my best friend is from a brahmin konkani family who came to to bangalore 40 plus years ago and they all speak kannada fluently and kannada is ridiculosly easy to learn too.
