Trundler27 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 With the ATG Kallis retired from tests and almost at the very end of his International career the time now is ripe for some younger players to step into that envious slot of being the best two way all-rounder in International cricket. There are a few very exciting young all-rounders coming up in International cricket these days. So I just wanted to start a discussion on which one is the best in everyone's opinion?? I'm fairly impressed by the new ODI fastest century record holder Corey Anderson of NZ and would consider him the most exiciting in terms of potential since he already has a test hundred and 11 wkts in 5 matches in addition to a good start to his ODI career. Other solid candidates would be James Faulkner (Aus) and Ben Stokes (Eng). Unfortunately I don't see anyone from any of the sub-continent teams carrying a young player with such two-way ability with both bat and ball.

Trundler27 Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 The west indies 'all-rounders' are not really two-way players that could solely be picked for their balling or batting skills imo.... i would classify them more as bits and pieces players like the poms had in the 90s The so called pakistani all rounders haven't shown anything yet to get excited... abdur razzaq was better than bhatti when you consider both batting and bowling skills combined imo :giggle:

Scarves Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Honestly? I've been very impressed by Stokes and Faulkner. Both can hit and grit it out with the bat and they bowl well.

Vijy Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 All-rounders are a dying breed. Cannot think of many true all-rounders in Tests currently. In ODIs there are a few with good records including Sir. But in Tests, apart from Shakib (and even his batting is shaky) I cannot think of many. Watto has a decent record but he has too many failings with the bat, and with the ball he is too much of a restrictive bowler.
