That was the turning point of the series. No way we shouldn't have won that game. We could have won our maiden series in SA had we managed to win that match.
Absolutely, we just can't cross over. And its because of the lack of wicket taking bowlers. until we pick genuine wicket takers like shami and yadav, we won't win anything major. The best we can do vs nz is a draw right now, but we could have won the 1st nz test too had we conceded even 350. I blame dhoni and management. they brought back ishant and zak for durban, when it should have been yadav.

Yup time and again we have the opponent on the backfoot but lack the killer punch and can't put them away. We are one strike bowler or a fast bowling all-rounder from being pretty good in Tests. We have the batting nailed down for the most part and a wkt taker will get us over the hump.

the problem for India is that we have been looking for that killer punch with the ball for best part of 3-4 years now in a pacer. From 2008-2011 we had Zak who sort of did that job. Umesh Yadav has the pace. But i am not sure he has the form....

Tough to win games without a strike bowler or two  We've wkt taking bowlers for home condition and we do so well. We don't have for pace friendly conditions and we struggle. Simple as that.

We dont even have wicket taking bowlers for home anymore.

For home Jaddu, Ashwin and Ojha with a seamer is good enough. But it's overseas the problem crops up where spinners hardly play a role. All our all-rounders and wkt takers are spinners and they become ineffective away from subcontinent.

which is why i feel india are better off playing games on green pitches. bigger chance of us winning.

Agreed. At least on green pitches there's some chance of our pacers rolling over the opponents. On a good pitch our bowlers struggle to do any sort of damage. All our Test wins away in the last decade (Eng, Aus, SA, WI) came on bowler friendly pitches where our bowlers picked up wkts and neutralised the bowling advantage our opponents had. Between you avatar is creepy as hell. Looks like Jayasuriya is about to embark on a murder spree :fear:

Quite frankly its flattish pitches with something in it for good bowlers which i am afraid of

It's the pitches which, as the commies say, "have something in it for both batsmen and bowlers" are the ones which worry me. Coz I know our bowling won't do much and concede 400+ and the opponent's bowling attack will extract any help on offer and bowl us out. On helpful tracks pitch does the work for our bowlers and make them look better than they usually are :haha:

I would say last one year since his work with Lillie after an injury. I knew they had made a big mistake by not picking him for England round of Ashes. It shows a bit of work with a good coach and mental piece to go with hard work and ability like him can do wonders.
