I realise South asian nations have a poor olympic record in general. so you would not try at all? Fantastic. I think if you were in charge dharna of aam aadmi would be the official sport. Wow so much saltiness from you. :haha: So in B'desh's first 14 years, they have won 4 matches India to win 4 matches took - 23 years New Zealand took - 38 years Sri Lanka - 13 years Pakistan - 3 years Zimbabwe - 9 years West Indies - 7 years South Africa - 17 years Australia - 5 years England - 6 years. So not bad considering the competition and other countries. How did you count the years for other countries that started playing after world war 2? Wouldn't the right thing be to subtract those war years for all affected countries or present a different stat for countries uninterrupted by war, instead of mixing up the stats from countries that started playing before and after the war. And since you want to add 1932 to 1947 to India's years, going by the same logic you should add the same number of years to pakistan too. Maybe you can also add 1932 to 1971 to bangladesh since it was a part of united india and pakistan and those 2 nations were cricket playing nations during that time period.

alexander Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 The thing is the other sides (mostly, sans Bd, Zim and now sadly WI) may lose but over a period of time there is a degree of balance of their results. With Bangladesh there is no balance - they are awful. In 15 odd years and pushing 80 tests, they have made no progress. Giving them test status was a joke. I support 2 tiers so long as there is no immune sides.

We had the small issue of world war 2 and Indian freedom struggle to worry about. That's my point. Hardly an excuse. SL were in a massive civil war for 25+ years where Colombo the cricketing center was a constant target for suicide attacks (big impact for a small country although it's not a world war), teams didn't tour 87-92 period, still won the WC in 96. I'm sure most other countries had gone through various troublesome periods. Yes, it's more logical to count the no. of matches played than years, but discarding all the matches in a certain period is not an option. PS: Also SL didn't get an alternative home during that period like Pakistan got in UAE. Another thing is they lost all their top experienced players due to a rebel tour in SA including their 1st test captain and their best ever WK just after getting test states. You can compare that situation with what happened to Zimbabwe after 2003 WC. So lots of excuses can be found for other countries as well.

Even present day India started playing only from Nov 1947, so if you want to add the 10 matches played by british india from 1932-1936, followed by a 10 year break for world war 2, followed by 3 matches in 1946 to our tally then you have to add it to yours too. And please check how many pakistani players from present day pakistan's first match in 1952 were a part of British India's national and provincial teams. All of them, they had to be. So why do only present day India's players from 1947 get to carry the record from 1932 to 1946 and not pakistani players? Why should only pakistan get a clean start?
