TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Just before the New Zealand tour began, Dhoni expressed satisfaction in his team saying that both ODI and Test squads look settled. That despite the fact that India lost got whitewashed in the ODI series against South Africa, lost the Test series without winning a match and are now on the verge of getting handed another whitewash in New Zealand. The giants in our backyard, the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have been lambs overseas, the middle order barring Kohli has been a complete failure and too much has been left to Dhoni to do the near impossible. The bowling has never been strong but in the last two series it has been nothing short of appalling. Barring Mohammed Shami, no one has shown the capability of taking wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has a strike rate of over 70, and our spinners have a strike rate of over 100, with Ashwin touching an embarrassing 200. Is this really a "settled" side? Or do you think the performances in the last two series has unsettled them?

We should worry about the next tournament first then worry about who's going to play, since we don't exactly know who is a settled player right now in our team. We are just team of 5 confirmed players right now. I can bet you that. No more than 5 plyaers or probably 4 look sure start for the world cup. These guys need to first confirm their place for few series than to be considered as world cup prospects.

Pujara could replace Rohit. If things go as it has been, the opening would probably be led by Gambhir & Pujara.

I can think of at least 7 teams which will do better in these conditions and 1 year is too small a time to make major changes and improve batting and bowling in a big way. Good thing is we can stop worrying about India's chances in World Cup and get on with our work and stop wasting time.

We've always sucked in South Africa too yet that's also where we reached the World Cup final once and won the T20 World Cup.

You're comparing a side with Sachin, Dravid, Sehwag, Ganguly, Yuvraj, Zaheer Khan, Srinath, Kumble, Harbhajan Singh at their prime with this side ? :hysterical: Even Agarkar was a very good ODI bowler and Nehra used to bowl quick, swung it a mile and bowled some great spells back then.

Also, South Africa used to be an excellent ODI side, especially at home back then. So they had the edge over us. That Indian side had the potential to defeat most teams on any day other than the mighty Aussie side whom we ran into in the final or perhaps South Africans at home. Its not a surprise we reached the final.
