NEW DELHI: The Justice Mudgal panel report on IPL spot-fixing scandal wants the Indian cricket board to restrain the nexus between cricketers and player agents, bringing the spotlight on Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's interest in the company that manages him. The Supreme Court-appointed panel did not name any player or sports marketing firm in its report, but made several recommendations to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) including not allowing agents to travel with the team or stay in the same hotel and not allowing players to own any interest in player agencies. On June 3, 2013, ET reported that India and Chennai Super Kings captain Dhoni owned a 15% stake in Rhiti Sports, the sports marketing firm that manages his cricketing and marketing deals and used to manage four other cricketers — Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh, of whom the first two also play for CSK. Arun Pandey, who owns Rhiti and is a close friend of Dhoni, however, had clarified that the cricketer held the shares — which were given against outstanding receipts — only for a few days, and after that Dhoni held no stake in the company. On Tuesday, Pandey denied that the Justice Mudgal recommendations had anything to do with his business and his association with Dhoni. He reiterated that Dhoni has no shareholding in his sports management company, but said he has sweat equity in some of his other ventures like a chain of gymnasiums in exchange for licensing his brand. "His brand carries big value. My business gets a boost when he associates with it. And so I give him sweat equity, which is around 10%-15%. He does not invest his money in my business," Pandey told ET. Asked about the perception that Dhoni could influence players' selection and promote Rhiti's clients, he said, "All I can say is Dhoni has never allowed business to mix with sports. But yes, he has a future after cricket and you can't deny him his right to secure it, as long as he is not harming anyone and the game's interest." The three-member Mudgal panel, which submitted its report on allegations of betting and spot-fixing in the Indian Premier League to a Supreme Court bench on Monday, said the BCCI should not allow player agents to travel with the team or stay in the same hotel as the team, especially close to the date of a match. Also, players should not be allowed to own any stake or interest in player agencies or companies involved with cricket unless such interests are in the nature of sponsorship or endorsements. Even in such cases, the player or agent should declare it to the BCCI within 15 days of signing a deal. Rahul Mehra, a Delhi-based lawyer who has taken the cricket administration to court on several occasions, said the panel may have found some connection between player-agent nexus and the controversies surrounding cricket. "The observations are important. They mean that the committee found this to be a reason for the rot, but may be it did not spell out in details because of the big names involved," Mehra said. The Mudgal committee had also submitted a second secret report to the Supreme Court. Media reports have suggested that it has named six national players as allegedly involved in betting and fixing. BCCI member and former IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said he was not aware of the contents of the report. After the ET report on Rhiti and Dhoni last year, the BCCI had taken measures to curb any such conflict of interest. It has asked players to declare their interest, if any, in any cricket management company or players' agency. This will be made part of the contract.

May be not now but at a time he had 65% shares in Rhiti. There were Kirti Azad Maninder Singh chetan Chauhan and VVS criricising him on that in media. Players pay a cut of their salary to their managers like Rhiti in this case. So he would obviously favour the players under Rhiti.

Dhoni has this bad habit of persisting with someone for wayy too long. Be it Pissant or Bhajji or Raina or Gambhir' date=' even sehwag to some extent in tests. He just tries to give the confidence to the players that they won't be dropped if they don't perfrom, only in the last resort he drops them. on the other hand his long ropes are affecting other players chances, resulting in fans outrage and all sorts of conspiracys from media (some just believe anything media says) .[/quote'] Every captain has his favorites who he gives more chances than others. Every captain has his favorites who he gives more chances than others. It would be naive to think otherwise. Dhoni has too. He never gave a long rope to likes of Umesh but Ishant played even in WI test series who averages 60 in last 3 years. Umesh and Aaron are dumb and Ishant is smart.

Its not like he thinks umesh is dumb, but he might well think pissant is better :mad: pissant finally dropped by selectors. Tension not, Umesh will be picked soon I hope.
