Difference being height a good 4-5 " ' date='and despite the fact that the ball has to travel longer, Johnson is faster and [b']more accurate now
only now. He was crap for almost 6-7 years. There is no reason why umesh can't be as good as Mitchell Johnson with good training, support and experience.

Umesh can be real quick when bowling with confidence, remember Aus tour last time and the bowl he bowled to ponting to castled him. has good yorker, very good bouncer same like Johnson which bounces from sort of length, has good away going delivery. couple of matches he played against Aus and SL he was all the time 150+ or there about and that is a serious speed and will trouble any one. And as far as brain goes Johnson was no Mcgrath type who gets batman out by guile he is just pace and pace and there is no substitute for Pace.

OP is bowling illiterate
I don't think so. In fact, I think Umesh Yadav is a much much better fast bowler than Michelle Johnson 11883066_ori.png Now, Mitchell Johnson ... johnson-729-620x349.jpg ... is a whole different story

We can come up with a video for Bhuvaneswar kumar , Shami, Sreesanth, Ishant, RP singh , Irfan pathan except with better song than a FLo rida song. :cantstop: Doesn't prove anything. He deserves a chance. But we are putting him on a pedestal with very small sample. Let us hope he does well for us. Shami honestly never expected to do this well for us. But he is the type of bowlers you need in subcontinent and most places. Fast and full. Majority of the successful subcontinent fast bowlers full length bowlers. Not "intimidating fast bowlers. Very few hit the deck bowler. Srinath is one. Umesh's strength (if he has any) it is that.He should merely focus on it. I hope he doesn't try to bowl like "johnson". His career will be over in a jiffy. Despite being crappy Johnson was a gun ODI bowler most of his career. Umesh on the other hand is the 2nd or 3rd worst in history in terms of ER.

One quality that is differentiating Johnson from almost any other fast bowler now is the vicious and accurate bounce that he is getting. His slingshot action makes him very difficult to read. He is something different. Umesh is a very different kind of bowler. That being said... he is genuinely quick. Can bowl 140 to 150 k whenever he wishes and does it often. He has a strike tate of 46 in tests .... better than any other Indian bowler. He maybe erratic but is a genuine wicket taker. Indian bowling needs both wicket taking ability as well as genuine pace. We need to include this guy in the team, motivate him and bring out his best.

Kevin Pietersen says it all:

When you facing someone as quick as Mitchell, your instinct occasionally makes you do things you shouldn't.. PACE causes indecision! There is a HUGE difference when facing someone at 140kmh compared to 150kmh..
Umesh Yadav's not a similar pace as Johnson. He's 5-6 k lesser, and Johnson's round-arm action makes his bouncers a lot more difficult to face.

Stopped reading after similar speeds. Umesh is almost 10 k slower than Jhonson. Hell he is not even a "Right Arm Fast". Indians who have never seen a bowler bowling at speed more than 140 k for them think this guy is fast just because he bowls some (yeah read it again some not all) balls at more than 140 k whereas Jhonson bowls most of the deliveries at 147 to 148 and some at more than 150k. Delusional Indian fans think guys like Umesh, Aaron and Shami are fast whereas they are not.

Well the average speed difference is around 5ks. Mitch bowls with an avg speed of 143-147 ,yadav bowls more in the range 140-144 in tests..I remember he bowled with an avg speed of 142 in Kolkata test vs Windies and bowled 90 mph in Australia..both can crank it up to 150 k. Mitch's fastest I saw was 154, Yadav's 152

Wasn't he an overrated spray gun before who had just pace nothing else?
Exactly. We don't like to support our bowlers in their formative stages. We make fun of them. Johnson, even upto last year, was 5 k slower and had a test average of 31 or so. In India, he would have been packed off.

Yadav did on Aus tour. It is all about how much support he can get from his captain. Delhi Daredevils coach TA Shekhar asked him to bowl as quick as he can in IPL and he was consistently 145 plus there. You can still check videos of 2012 Aus tour and he was 145 plus most of the times.
