thats good :) enjoying time with people who care for us is great ...but i am sure u watched crap movie :cantstop: well that spell was something else even last spell where he bowled 9 overs on go and was even ready for 10th before umprires stopped him and that is at full intensity ,hitting helmets ,reversing the ball big...:hatsoff:

Ambrose was not fast, Walsh was a medium-pacer, judging speeds of bowlers from tvs, people who faced them and their comments are irrelevant.. the list goes on. If this thread proves one thing, its the simple fact that Indians by and large know nothing about fast bowling. Zero. Even self-declared 'longtime watchers' like Gambit, Rkt would get laughed out of the park by any actual fast bowler with real success- i've met those in my time in north america. Its not surprising that Indians produced the worst crop of fast bowlers in test history, after SL and Bangladesh. With this level of ignorance on display from the indian masses, its no wonder that the final product ( fast bowling), by and large sucks.

I Think the confusion is about release speed.Its known that tall bowlers have less reduction in speed compared to shorter ones so walsh at 135ks and ambrose at 140 ks can easily be as suick as somebody who is 5ks quicker on release speed but shorter in height.

Tell that to the self proclaimed experts here who think they know how fast a bowler is by seeing 5 minute YouTube clips. What you said is basic knowledge for fast bowlers. What is also basic knowledge lacking amongst these experts,is that vertical speed is just as important as horizontal. Hitting a ball is a 3d motion. Your reaction time isnt just about how fast a ball is crossing you, its also how fast a ball is climbing on you. This is why mcgrath was just as fast as mohammed sami to face. sami had significantly greater linear speed, mcgrath had significantly greater vertical speed. Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2

That's not quite correct. If anything, a tall bowler's speed will reduce through the delivery more than a short bowler's, because the ball has to travel a longer distance (it's angling more down on the same length delivery, so the delivery path is longer). Where the confusion lies is that the speed is measure only in a horizontal line (1 metre after the ball is released). Because a tall bowler angles the ball further down, their delivery has actually traveled further than a short bowler across that one metre (think of a right angled triangle). So even though the ball may be travelling through the air more quickly, the speed gun only picks up their speed in terms of horizontal movement. Ambrose may have been bowling 145-150, but horizontally (towards the batsman) the ball would only be travelling at 140.
