Ultimate_Game Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 No matter how bitterly disappointed we are to see the way the 2nd Test went, you have to admire New Zealand and McCullum. The fact that India couldn't even win one game on the tour says it all which makes this tour worse than the 2002-03 one and all credit to New Zealand to make it happen. Saving the 2nd Test from the jaws of defeat takes the cake and highlights how tenacious NZ team is. Folks can say it was a flat pitch or that Indian bowling isn't exactly the best in the world or that Indian fielders gave too many gifts to NZ batsmen, the fact remains this match was one of the greatest comebacks in Test cricket. NZ were 92/5 early on Day 3, still 150 runs behind to make India bat again, and an innings victory was on the cards with 2 days to spare and here we are at the end of the day and only two results seem possible - Draw or a NZ win. You have to doff your cap to McCullum for playing one of the greatest "backs to the wall" innings in Tests :hatsoff: Conditions and bowling may not have been that testing but he still had to bat 2 days to save the game and after giving a couple of chances early in his innings he never faltered. Definitely a captain's knock if there ever was one. Watling needs to be given a lot of credit as well the way he stuck around and supported McCullum by playing a chanceless innings and playing nearly 350 deliveries for his 100. Without Watling McCullum couldn't have played this special knock.

maniac Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Great stuff by Mccullum......Lol at people who called him a hack because of his T20 exploits....He is more or less like Gayle-A good batsman who can take away the game from the opposition but will be inconsistent more often than not but still somehow stay in the 35-40 average range. :hatsoff:

Iconoclast Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Most epic comeback I have seen in test cricket. This was IMHO even better than Pakistan's chase against Sri Lanka. Hats off to Bazz, Watling and Neesham for this tremendous feat.

That NZ team was much better as well compared to the current NZ team. They had a fit Shane Bond and had a very good bowling lineup along with their best batting lineup with likes of Stephen Fleming, Atle, McMillan, Cairns etc. I would say both tours were disasters.
