India should pick two spinners in away Tests

When did Indian spinners win matches away? Throughout the 90s we did not record a single oveseas win barring that solitary win in SL. In the 80s, it was 3 away wins, and all these wins were mostly due to pacemen. In the 2000s, I can remember only four test wins outside the SC in which the spinners had a big say - of these two were in the WI which had highly spin friendly conditions. India will never learn. We need two very good pacemen preferably with express pace, two good medium fast bowlers and optionally a spinner to win matches away. Two spinners may be chosen based on the nature of the pitch, but it will be necessary only occasionally outside the SC.

I definitely agree that Jadeja is not enough of a genuine turner of the ball to be our main spinner outside of India. I hope people defending Ashwin realise that he averages nearly 75 (yes 75!) away from home. Lets face it ... India's spin cupboard right now is quite bare and there is no sign of that changing in the near future.

Even if you have 2 good spinners, no point playing them on a lot of overseas pitches. A lot of pitches overseas don't even begin to offer anything for spinners till day 4 and some want 50% of bowling attack to only really come in to play on day 4. O come on Need 3 fast bowlers and one spinner, exactly like rest of world does on their own pitches. Why do we think we are so clever and go to foreign pitches and play 2 spinners and / or trundlers. When these guys playing on their own pitches for decades are doing something totally different. Its like how we try and defy rest of worlds thinking and say that pace don't matter and come up with all kinds of weird theories why trundlers are the way

Problem is India dont really have good 3 pace bowlers either. Even if we drop Zaheer and Ishant and play Umesh shami and bhuvi. Will that attack take 20 wickets on all sorts of pitches not aiding spin? I am not so sure. If we had bowlers like Bedi and Prassanna i would have taken the gamble and played 2 spinners and 2 pacers.

Well if we played and gave a long rope to yadav aaron and shami. Who knows. Maybe we could develop 3 good fast bowlers. Need to play them and give them time We just expect fast bowlers to land up and deliver game 1. While other like trundlers ans spinners given loads of time to play, develop gain experience.

Well considering India dont have good enough spinners India have no option to give them time. This discussion about playing 2 spinners is redundant logic as the spinners we have are not good enough. India will need to play 3 pacers.

Mishra might be better than both of them.

Ridiculously stupid article. It doesnt matter what quality of spinners you have, on Aus/SA/NZ pitches they won't do much. Its the seamers who can take wickets and win you games in those conditions. Its downright stupid to play 2 spinners just because your strength is spinners in SC. Might as well stop playing overseas if you don't have confidence in your seamers. This article shows the level of stupidity among the so called cricket experts and how damaging their opinions are for Indian cricket.

Let India find one spinner who can take wickets overseas first then we will think about playing two. These morons are talking as if bedi and co won countless tests overseas.

In the sub continent sure' date=' but on other pitches it should be 3 quicks + 1 spinner.[/quote'] 3 quicks + an all round seam bowler + a spinner. That's the ideal combination which most teams use overseas.

since we don't have good seam bowling AR.I think we should play quicks with Ashwin as the allrounder :hmmm: surely he can do 5th bowler role

Two spinners in a 5 man bowling attack might work, but two spinners in our 4 man bowling attack?

That's what I suggested. With some more effort put into batting, he can be a very good batsman + a part timer. Agree with Gautimaan as well. We don't go with a 5 bowling attack. If an AR needs to be included then we have to drop a batsman from the middle order.
