G_B_ Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Rahane is a good option too, though I doubt he can hit good bowlers consistently Rohit is better option for T20 he does not have to. Just give the strike to Dhawan. Realistically the indian openers will be facing Johnson and Faulkner. Badree and Rampaul Gul and Junaid
Lord Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Rahane > Rohit when it comes to opening the innings. Rohit never opened for MI' date=' he is good in the middle order only.[/quote'] doesnt matter much in T20s hes already done okay on pattas in ODI while opening having not done so b4. hes got more big hitting ability than Rahane.
Lord Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 he does not have to. Just give the strike to Dhawan. Realistically the indian openers will be facing Johnson and Faulkner. Badree and Rampaul Gul and Junaid yeah but if we are chasing (and most likely a big score) then just give strike to Dhawan approach won't work.We need both openers to fire to make use of powerplays
Sidhoni Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 The kind of middle order we have in Kohli, Rohit, Yuvi, Dhoni (I'll have Raina at 3), we do not really need a 60/0 in 6 overs, I'll happily take 45/0 in 6. We can always get 90-100 in last 10 if that middle order clicks.

It does. For all we know Rohit may make a 15(20) start and that makes Dhawan to take a risk and we are 20/1 in 4 overs. He is a big hitter once he is set. In the PP overs he is like block for 6 balls then try and hit a six. If that approach doesn't work he'll screw us. yeah but if we are chasing (and most likely a big score) then just give strike to Dhawan approach won't work.We need both openers to fire to make use of powerplays Rahane can switch gears. He will not be a 200 SR batsman but he has the capability to go at 150 at least if needed. And if he is not able to score fast he won't eat up balls like Rohit. We have some great batters when it comes to chasing (Kohli, Dhoni, Raina, Yuvi). I would take it if we need 90 in 10 overs with 8/9 wickets in hand.
Sidhoni Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 we can only have 4 of those (since Jaddu will be at 7) if Rohit plays he has to open.Rahane should be benched. That's true. In that case I won't mind dropping Rohit considering his form.

Lord Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 That's true. In that case I won't mind dropping Rohit considering his form. drop Rohit considering his record in T20s? T20s is only thing hes good at,lol

He is a big hitter once he is set. In the PP overs he is like block for 6 balls then try and hit a six. If that approach doesn't work he'll screw us. he has that approach in ODIs as he wants to play long innings.in T20s I'm pretty sure he'll take more chances from the start Rahane can switch gears. He will not be a 200 SR batsman but he has the capability to go at 150 at least if needed. And if he is not able to score fast he won't eat up balls like Rohit. G_B_ Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 All i am saying is India need to have a mixture of players. We will have yuvi Dhawan Raina and Rohit as hitters. We will bat all the way to Ashwin as the next 2 WC's are going to be in the subcontinent. You need a consolidator in there. As things stand anyways Rahane has a better T20 statistical record than Gambhir. He is in good knick averaging 40 plus in the asia cup. I am confident he can average more than 20 with the bat and have a strike rate of 120 plus for the WC tournament. I also doubt that there will be pattas for the WC. As we all saw in the asia cup the scores rarely reached 300 plus (in just one match). The usual scores were around the 250-260 mark. Which tells me that the average score for the T20 WC will be in the 160-170 mark. Not a total flatbed.
G_B_ Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Keep also in mind that all the games india will play, will be in Mirpur Dhaka. so as the tournament progresses natural wear and tear will mean that the spinners will be more effective and the scores will decline. Same thing happened in the WC in 2012. The pitches at Colombo started pro batsman and then quickly became spin friendly with the final being a bowlers pitch (in the t20 context) In such a scenario you need a consolidator in the ranks.
G_B_ Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Rohit Sharma as a T20 opener is also a moot point. He was tried as the opener in the T20 world cup in 2009 and he failed in the super 4 stage when he averaged 11 with the bat. v WI,England and SA.
SLICKR392 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 GG does not have a great SR in T20. Rohit has better if he plays with clear mind of be aggressive. He needs to be told to hit out at the top and no tuk-tuk shyte by Dunc and Dhoni. Rohit is an experienced player. 100 ODIs old. No one needs to guide him here, he should be matured enough to know that he needs to hit boundaries. And you need to take singles in T20 as well. He is better down the order. Scored a 50 last year at that position. Rahane is a good T20 open, not an explosive one, but a good one. With Dhawan on the other end, its fine to open with Rahane.
kubrickian Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Please Stop Stop Stop Bringing Ipl And Clt20 Records When Talking About International Cricket. I'm Sick Of Everyone talking about Ipl Records Where Every Batsman Scores Tons Of Runs Against Indian domestic bowlers And Expects Them To Do The Same In International Cricket. Those records dont mean anything.
rkt.india Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 he does not have to. Just give the strike to Dhawan. Realistically the indian openers will be facing Johnson and Faulkner. Badree and Rampaul Gul and Junaid Rohit is better than even Dhawan. Dhawan is not a big hitter too. A Rahane-Rohit can work, Dhawan-Rohit can work, but not Dhawan-Rahane. Both are not big hitters, cannot clear boundaries.
rkt.india Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 The kind of middle order we have in Kohli' date=' Rohit, Yuvi, Dhoni (I'll have Raina at 3), we do not really need a 60/0 in 6 overs, I'll happily take 45/0 in 6. Switchblade Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Should be Rahane though we all know Rohit is going to open. Honestly in my opinion SKINDIA is suited for the t20 format should have been included.
