He moves like lightning so is not very noticeable but he waits till the last moment, till the ball is in his glove before moving his hands towards the wicket. Compare with Karthik who just grabs for the ball

The reason he's a lightening fast stumper is because he doesn't move his hand backwards to collect the ball to absorb the ball's impact. This helps him afflict a quick stumping. However, such a technique makes him drop catches against the spinner as the hands are hard and the ball's impact isn't absorbed making the ball pop out from his gloves. Dhoni has made that trade off but it'd be interesting to see (with data) if that's for the better or worse.
