Minimum Governance , Max Government ? At this rate next year we might have to disclose how many kilos of rice and wheat we consumed ! :haha: Under the new tax filing norms, the taxpayer will have to furnish the number of bank accounts held “at any time (including opened/closed) during the previous year” with the last balance in his or her account on March 31 of the just concluded fiscal. The tax payer will also have to give the name of the bank, account number/numbers, it’s address, IFSC and any possible joint account holder. Is this the same in other developed countries like USA , UK ? Do you have to reveal all bank accounts at the time of fling tax returns ? Why can't the Govt access it on their own since PAN number is already associated with Bank accounts. Surely the Govt is capable of querying a Database ! The new forms, which run into 14 pages, will be applicable from the current assessment year implying taxpayers will have to furnish last year’s (2014-15) details, including overseas travel, the money spent on such trips and the sources of these funds among others. The declaration of bank accounts is a great way to identify benami/fraud accounts/transactions. If no one lists an account in the tax return, it can only mean two things - either the account is by someone who has zero income, or a black money account. If the account has/had enormous sums of money in it, it is probably the latter. Makes much easier to choke the flow of black money internally. The foreign travel declaration actually stumps me. My guess is that it is more for employers to declare how much they spend on official travels abroad.

Way to simplify tax return filing. :facepalm: LINK 'सहज' form made a bit more असहज . PAN is already required to be provided while opening bank account, PAN is already required in any type of KYC too.
