hhunaeh Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 A calculated dispassionate decision to improve governance is fine. What i don't get is, why am i reading that many people gave their lives up for it? Why so much passion? Who gives up their life to redraw state borders and improve administrative efficiency? There must be something more i am not getting here. I never knew the concept of a state was supposed to hold so much significance.

There will always be people doing something or the other. Maybe we should not pay attention?

Telangana is not fertile and needs water to get any kind of yield yet there were no projects to improve the situation. The demand was there for so many years yet no cm mostly from seemandhra never acted to even sanction a project to improve irrigation. All the water seemandhra gets is from telangana. So it's pretty obvious why no one created a project to safeguard their region interests. In the history of AP only three cms were from telangana that too long time ago and they had Naxal problems when they were in power.Mean while Hyderabad boomed and real estate soared seemandhra folks made lot of investments in Hyderabad and this main reason they never wanted to give a seperate state.
G_B_ Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 So its a primarily economic reason. This is why i am in favor of smaller states. Can see the same thing repeated in maharashtra. Mumbai earns and its poured into the sugarlands of western maharashtra while less fertile Viderbha Marathwada and Desh regions starve.

gattaca Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 We salute to all the farmers and students who lost their lives for this cause. Who are not here to see this dream.

But even have differences in culture too and lost individuality our poets are made fun of by their counter parts from the other region. to be fair thats bit of a sissy reason. Pretty soon its going to be north telangana making fun of south telangana. Over time maybe 50 years or so. Even in maharashtra people of the ghats are known as ghati (not in a good way). **** like that will continue to happen. Even today in the UK the prosperous south makes fun of the north for being impoverished. While northerners make fun of the south for being snobs. Its just human nature.

I think similar grievances exist in north karnataka too, but i am not that well informed about that region. If Karnataka is divided for similar purposes, i rather see the process go down like in Chattisgarh, Uttaranchal and Jharkhand and not like Telangana and Seemandhra.
SLICKR392 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Does this mean there is going to be more Telugu movies now? :((
coffee_rules Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 All the government jobs are mostly taken by folks from seemandhra. 90 percent of jobs in state secrateriart are occupied by seemandhra people. This is idiotic. Telengana seized to exisit in 1956. With a unified state, who is to tell who is from which part of the state. 57 years is a time for 2 generations. If somebody from Eluru had married somebody from Hyd and their kin took up a govt job in 2001, where is he considered from. This logic of KCR and Telegana people is stupid. How will they decide - ask him to talk and if he speaks with a telengana accent, he can stay? He is asked to say "Paper"" and he says "Pyaaper", he can stay in Hyd!

Please tell me why 90 % of jobs in secretariat are for people from Andhra.
bulbul Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Does this mean there is going to be more Telugu movies now? :(( You can expect Telugu "Border" movie with Balakrishan in double role..one brother from Telanagana & one from Andhra.

'Our Region', 'Our Culture', 'Our Food' ? Really dude ? It seems like you are very proud of your very very very narrow individuality. Which age are you living in? If every body in India started thinking like you do, we would have 225 states in India and quite possibly a broken country. PS: I have supported the formation of Telangana, but for reasons very very different from what you are mentioning.

It seems like you are very proud of your very very very narrow individuality. Which age are you living in? If every body in India started thinking like you do, we would have 225 states in India and quite possibly a broken country. PS: I have supported the formation of Telangana, but for reasons very very different from what you are mentioning. The main reason for creation of Telangana state is regional jingoism and not because of administration ease or economic backwardness. For instance, Rayalaseema region and parts of Andhra are more backward than Telangana. Hyderabad which is part of Telangana contributes 60 % of revenue to AP state. You see, Telangana was part of Hyderabad state and the Nizam mostly concentrated on Hyderabad city and didnt do anything for other parts of the state (which includes Telangana, North Karnataka, Aurangabad etc.) and the people in those areas are economically, financially and culturally backward. So then after independence, Seemandhra people came in and invested a lot and created lots of jobs and economic opportunities. Despite this, Seemandhra people are considered to have subjugated the locals. Telangana people have a sort of deep rooted inferiority complex and feel a grudge because they think Andhra people look down on them because of their accent, culture etc. So they think having a separate state would somehow uplift their own self identity and make Andhra people outsiders in their state and thereby decreasing their importance in Telangana. Telangana state creation is purely a result of regionalistic, jingoistic, divide and rule politics and a black mark on Indian democracy.
Rotating Potato Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 What has happened can't be undone. The way forward is to build a future for the next generation . No use crying over spilled beer.
hhunaeh Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 It is not the only instance where people have lost their lives for a state boundary. The Samyukta Maharashtra Movement of the 50s also ended up with many lives lost. You'd expect such feelings to have subsided and people to be more secure about their identity in the Indian union by 2014, but it's still bubbling right underneath the surface. I suppose it never will and one shouldn't expect indians to act like a homogeneous group.
gattaca Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 HYDERABAD: Today is a new dawn in the history of the Indian Union. For the first time — outside the Hindi- and Bengali-speaking areas — two states speaking the same language have been created. Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the two successor states to Andhra Pradesh, that come into existence on Monday, swear by Telugu. This knocks down the basis on which the internal map of the Indian Union was redrawn in the first decade after Independence. With the linguistic basis of states — language being assumed as the indicator of a homogeneous culture — being challenged, there is scope for another exercise to redraw the internal map of India. Whether this will happen or not is a moot point but the question is why did this "Telugu state" break down. And what are the lessons for the future? Although there was a demand for a composite Telugu state from before Independence, the Nehru-led government created Andhra Pradesh due to Congress's political interests. History has thus come full circle. In Andhra state (which was carved out of the Telugu speaking areas of then Madras state in 1953), the Congress was facing a tough electoral contest from the Communists. So it was decided to merge Andhra with the Telugu speaking areas of the dominion of the deposed Nizam of Hyderabad. This would create a larger entity where the communists could be defeated. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/T-party-today-Indias-29th-state-Telangana-is-born/articleshow/35912105.cms?
