He averages over fricking 70 as a batsman alone with 29 hundreds and over 8200, and averages over 48 in every country with at least one hundred except WI where he played just 3 tests. He is batting like next Don Bradman in test making batting ridiculously easy. Those pointing his record against bangladesh should also look at other players who made merry when teams were weak and when they got better they stopped showing up.

Didn't other greats cash in against weak bowling attacks, it would not have mattered what bowling it was this guy is just too good . He might not be having average like in 70s but he might have been averaging in 60s. Scoring 29 hundreds in 70 tests with over 8200 runs purely as batsman is nothing but brilliant.unlike other overrated players from bigger teams this guy had least amount of chances to showcase his talent overseas as his team hardly played in longer series. We will never know how great he could have been had he just been a batsman thru out his career.

since 1990 tier - 1: sachin, lara tier - 2: dravid, kallis the batsman and ponting tier 2.5 : sangakarra, steve waugh, pietersen, sehwag tier - 3: mahela, greame smith, chanderpaul, inzamam, vvs, yusuf etc... how he ends his career will determine if he will enter tier-2 or not. tier-1 is out of question as of now. pietersen missed it by a whisker due to idiotic ecb. sachin and lara are the greatest batsmen since 1990. right now the batsman who have a good chance to end in tier-1 are cook amla abdv good chance for tier - 2 clarke for 2.5 bell --- pujara and kohli are yet to blossom as test batsman. too early to say which tier.

Out of 36, how many of them have been scored away from the SC- 6, 7? Just NOT good enough, no matter what stats or numbers you put on the table. He's the best batsman IN the subcontinent. Period.

And really, what exactly does make him better than Dravid? Or on par with him? Dravid was far, far, far superior to this guy in conditions overseas and WON us matches there, not just some mere draws.

Take out the fact that this guy is from SL and do the analysis of his stats rationally as a batsman alone. How many long series has he had chance to play overseas. Why are you combining his record as a keeper and batsman, keeping and scoring runs at no3 is just next to impossible.
