shortbread Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Ok lets take Herath out of the equation as most of the damage was done by the Sri Lankan pace attack constituting of the likes of Prasad, Mathews........no exactly tear away pace!!! That said for England Plunkett looked the most threatening. So what will be more vital, swing, accuracy or pace?! Ideally its a combination of all 3 I know but no Indian combines all this. For me BK and Shami will be vital. BK especially, considering Praveen did most damage for India the last time round. I also hope Pankaj Singh makes most of his chance. Wait and watch I presume!!

gattaca Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Pace with out accuracy is worse than a trundler. But most successful test teams have good pace bowlers who seem to have done well all over the world. Swing might be available on pitches this where pace bowlers help you out. Srilanka was lucky to get Anderson out in the last over if they had a pace bowler they could have won much before. So getting the combination right is important mixture of pace and swing bowlers is important this will give you the edge.
undisputed chap Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 All lankan bowlers were bowling 82-85mph. Bhuvi is mostly 80mph & pisshant is 78-80. Only shami is faster but not necessarily better. Even Pandeyji is 80mph & don't know about pankaj. Aron is faster but that is exactly why he won't play. Besides they actually bowled to a plan vs cook. But knowing our tundlers they will be bowling short & wide all day & captain will call them brainless once again.

Looks like Vaas did good with their bowling as well. We have a overrated Aussie who eats too much than he craps to coach our bowlers. I saw his interview during NZ series I mean seriously he is crap. I wouldn't even select him for a ranji trophy. Why cant BCCI select whoever coach better at ranji side than selecting overrated Aussie coaches.

You can sometimes make mistakes on appointing a coach but the bcci never admit they made a mistake let alone fire the coach as long as he plays the role of a dumb mute.

kruiser Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 The pacers hit the right lengths. Even at their pace, Englishmen were discomforted with bouncers at their bodies. We do not have any such bowler - barring Ishant (who will spray) and Aaron (who will not play) that can bounce a batsman out.

One dimensional attack doesnt work in all conditions. They did do well doesnt mean their attack was perfect. I would say England batted rather poorly.

NZ series (or for that the home series vs England) would have seen a different result if we had held onto our catches. I had compiled a list from the NZ series 2nd Test Test 2nd innings 28.1 Mohammed Shami to McCullum, no run, dropped at silly mid-on! Kohli, that was a relatively easy one! It was fullish and McCullum went through with a drive even though he wasn't to the pitch of it. It went to the left of Kohli but he snatched at it with his left hand and doesn't hold on. Came a lot slower than he expected. How costly is that going to be? 52.4 I Sharma to McCullum, 1 run, edged and Dhoni was flying to his right but it has dropped short of him. Genuine edge as McCullum was poking forward to push at the fuller delivery outside off 54.2 I Sharma to McCullum, no run, dropped by the bowler in his followthrough! He was a little early on the stroke and it was one he has shelved for a long time - the drive on the up. The ball takes more of the outside edge, strikes Ishant on the right hand, then chest and goes down. And so does he 1st Test 1st innings 1.1 Khan to Fulton, no run, Dhawan has dropped him. And it's not even his catch. Full outside off, at 121ks, Futon pokes at it, gets an edge, the ball is carrying to Rohit Sharma at second slip, but Dhawan dives across to ruin it for Rohit. Really surprised neither Vijay nor Rahane is there in the slips 28.4 Mohammed Shami to Williamson, no run, edged and not taken. Sitter by slip's standards. Almost knee high to Vijay at first slip. Nice length ball, seams away, takes the edge as KW defends, but Vijay doesn't hold on. Not sure if there was a very late movement as the ball approached him that put Vijay off 40.6 I Sharma to McCullum, no run, was that a chance? If it was, it was a really difficult one. Hit uppishly back at him, low to his left, Ishant goes down to try a catch 61.1 Jadeja to McCullum, 2 runs, Dhawan has missed his second chance of the day. Definitely a life for McCullum. McCullum goes sweeping, gets a top edge, and Dhawan at short fine leg completely misjudges it, and comes in and is lobbed 1st Test 2nd innings 7.1 Khan to McCullum, 1 run, Vijay has dropped another catch. Perhaps he shouldn't be at first slip. It swung late back into him, but it is hard to see why he has not taken it. This is waist high, perfect high, possibly too easy despite the late movement 40.3 Jadeja to Wagner, no run, missed stumping. Or was it an edge? Wagner is down the wicket, beaten, gets a thin edge, and Dhoni fails to catch it. So it is a drop and a missed stumping both 40.5 Jadeja to Boult, 4 byes, another missed stumping and four byes. New Zealand avoid becoming the first team to be bowled for 100 after having scored 500 in the first innings. Boult is down the wicket, beaten by the turn, and Dhoni makes a meal of it. The lead crosses 400 too

One reason why Ambrose, Mcgrath, Walsh were succesful in England was they were able to extract prodigious lift. Actually venky and Srinath bowled so well in 1996 series. They were very unlucky, beating the bat consistently.
