must be going by cricinfo classification? I remember they have a revolting classification. at some point, likes of peak umesh, varun aaron, srinath, etc were classified as medium-fast. people can debate whether they should be called "express", people can debate their effectiveness, etc... but in no way were these people medium-fast or even fast-medium

In the end we have drawn an away test series in SA, and two of the main architects have been 2 Indian Fast bowlers. One was the MoS and the other the MoM in the won test.

Still the TM and Selectors are not making good and longterm plan to get the Pace combination right.

 

Bad timing for Rana to get injured, he can easily be tried in place of Thakur. If Thakur does not get 1/2 top batters from the opstn side he will always look bad with his inability to bowl tight lines build pressure.

 

Mayank Yadav is injured too, they are picking Saini for A team which does not make much sense rt. now. SA, Aus are places where u need to send your fastest in A tours check if they are good, what improvements are required.

siraj was unexpectedly good . boomer was good as one would expect. thakur was disappointing as expected. mukesh did well, credit to him. prasidh was unexpectedly crap.

 

my 1 line summaries for all pacers.

I still think they should look at one out-and-out swing bowler, irrespective of pace (as long as it's over 133-135). they will be useful in NZ, SA, even Eng if they resort to green tracks.

 

of course, both express pacers and hit the deck pacers should be looked at as well

For me, the biggest plus was Bumrah pounding the pitch hard again after 2021, for bounce and seam movement. 

 

And this helped us pick wickets in the 2nd innings even when the ball wasn't moving that much.

Bumrah has become a top swing bowler with the new ball after his comeback in late 2023.

yes, but we should look for an younger pacer too. boom is 30, not exactly old, but we cannot rule out injuries. should have a proper conveyer belt of all types of pacers

Bumrah was brutal. Had my doubts cause he chokes sometimes in second innings but he stepped up big time. Clearly he was injured in wtc final 2021 and should gave never played. He also shouldn't have played in nz series when he had just returned back them. 

 

Bumrah average 12.91 in this series. Incredible

I felt Mukesh is more of a seam bowler ala slower shami. Mukesh is surprisingly not a short guy. I thought he was. He looked as tall or taller than bumrah who is close to 6 foot.

@express bowling Mark Waugh and Akram talking about extra pace of Amer Jamal being the reason he is successful in Australia. The best bowler in Pakistani camp. Even on a flatter Sydney track he is doing so well.

How fast was he, I only saw Highlights of first test and he wS bowling 128-134.

Bowling around 135 mostly but hits 142-143 once in a while.

Mukesh is a gamble. He will be ineffective in subcontinent. And despite his lack of pace, he has a tendency to bowl no balls. England is his best bet. But there are plenty pacers way better than him waiting in the queue.

Yes, Mukesh is basically an open chested seam bowler who can sometimes swing the new Dukes or SG ball in helpful conditions. Saw this swing in the WI tests and Irani Cup for a few overs. Haven't seen him swing the Kookabura yet. 

 

Till now my impression is that he bowls well when help is on offer ( sometimes better than the aggressive pacers ) and looks innocuous when movement is not available. Saw this yesterday first session and in the ODI series. 

 

He has the ability to rear up a few balls from back of a length from time to time, and just when you are appreciating this delivery in your mind, he bowls a few gentle balls.
