Bumrah was fast and hostile in the first test. But bowling fast-medium in this test so far. Just a couple of snorters. 

 

Siraj and Akashdeep are fast-medium anyway. Akash looked good as long as the ball was moving and got 2 wickets. But a bit innocuous with the older ball. 

 

And all 3 pacers are medium height.

 

We need a couple of tall, hit the deck, bouncy, 140 k+ pacers or an express pacer or two who can be consistently 145 k+ with bounce. Pacers who can prise out wickets with bounce when the ball is not moving. Our attack is too dependant on moving the ball.

Siraj bowls at Dayal's speeds these days but Dayal is more tall and bouncy. 

 

But Ideally, Harshit Rana should be brought in.

 

And look to get Mayank ready. 

 

It's a pity that Prasidh is disinterested in international cricket.

 

3 medium height pacers bowling 135 k+ do not pose any different challenge when the ball is not moving much. 

 

 

It's good to see that Agarkar and Gambhir have thought along the same lines atlast and selected Mayank and Harshit.

Finally after years of waiting, the selection panel has done something good. Gambhir also would have had something to do with this.

Anyways, one step closer to an attack comprising of Bumrah, Harshit and Mayank. The next step for Mayank and Harshit is to stay fit, hungry, fearless and to perform.

Good that they have included proper pacer in the team, but the next logical step would be not to force all formats on all pacers.

 

They have to understad some are not made for all 3 formats and the program should be there to maximize the potential

Bumrah was Fast-medium again 

 

Speeds of 133 k to 142 k .. less than usual 

 

Not a single bumper in a 5 over spell despite the fact that the pitch is flat.

 

Bowled in good areas though and got some zip, bounce and in-seam movement regularly.

Akashdeep not back to full pace yet.

 

Still bowling 132 k to 140 k.

 

Using less bouncers than what he did earlier. 

 

Really good control and zip off the deck though.

Bumrah dismisses Mehdy with a beautiful 141 k channel ball that seamed away with a bit of bounce.

Bumrah bowling 140 k+ now and hitting the bat really hard. 

 

He looks like a different bowler when he bowls 140 k+ with zip and bounce off the deck.

Bumrah bowling well within himself for the first 2 overs for whatever reason.
These are the times to bowl fast. Evening spell, opposition looking to survive, you can't lose the match, you're heading towards a short break.

Bumrah these days don't go full throttle, not sure if he is preserving himself or his body doesn't open up that easily.

He need proper rest in between...his body don't just open up and he is also not pushing himself to the limits due to upcoming BGT.

Bgt is still far. We have NZ series before that. Can't think about bgt already.

Bumrah has been average with the new ball throughout the series.

There is a statistic I saw where his numbers are God tier with semi new ball but poor in comparison with new cherry.

Akashdeep should be trusted with new ball more I think at least in India.

Unless Bumrah is carrying a niggle, this series has raised serious questions about his longevity in tests.

 

In 3 out of the 4 innings in this series, Bumrah has looked tired and is not running in well. 

 

Half the time he is just putting the ball there at 132 to 140 k. Apart from the 1st test 1st innings, his % of deliveries above 142 k has been really low.

 

He hasn't bowled even a single bouncer in this test and no cracking yorkers either.

 

I am worried.

 

P.S .. It is difficult to advice a legend like Bumrah, who knows way more about fast bowling than I ever will, but I wonder whether some strength and conditioning training at the NCA would help. Miss the 1st NZ test if need be.

 

This kind of lack of energy won't help in Australia.

Bumrah is resting more than he is playing.

 

Plays only test matches and ICC tournaments. And we play just 7 of 8 tests per year on an average.

 

That should not be too taxing for an international level pacer.
