Who are the other pacers in contention if there is injury to our main pacers.

 

Mukesh ,Avesh ,Dalal who were part of test squad recently.

Mayank,Harshit,Nitish who are selected as travelling reserve.

Nope Harshit and Mayank will likely play Australia A series starting OCt 31st.

Rohit today said they are looking to take Harshit Reddy Mayank to Australia & kinda hinted that Shami won't be the part of series.

 

SA T20s will have other set of Pacers.  Maybe Mayank won't be risked in 4day games but rest assured Harshit and Reddy will be in Australia.

Reddy for what? He is yet to do anything in first class cricket with bat and ball. He isn't some x-factor like Mayank.

As per Rohit Sharma ,they have identified pool of fast bowler 

Bumrah 

Shami

Siraj

Akashdeep

Mayank 

Harshit

Nitish

Dayal 

Prasidh 

 

From this list Shami and Prasidh are injured, Harshit,Mayank,Nitish,Dayal have not made debut yet and Akashdeep has played only 3 tests. 

 

It looks  like  the team management was certain that Shami would be 100 % fit and Prasidh would be backup.

The reason we wanted to keep them close to us was because we are thinking of them to take them to Australia. So we just want to monitor them and see their workload. A lot of these guys have injuries in the past. So it's important that we try and build them up and see what kind of options do we have. Like I said, we want to create bench strength. We want to create a group of fast bowlers where we have 8 or 9 options with us. It's not about 3 or 4 options. So we want to try and do that,” said Rohit before the first Test against the Black Caps.

"When it comes to batting, there are a lot of options. We want to create the same with the bowlers as well. Hence, we tried and kept them within the squad. So tomorrow, if we feel like they are ready to take that role, they should be ready for it. They have obviously played a few games before we made this announcement. They have played the Duleep Trophy, Irani Trophy as well. So we just want to make sure that they are monitored quite well. Their workloads have been taken care of.

Currently he mostly bowls shorter lengths which is the right way to go about in T20s at his pace but whether he adjust ls for test is also to be seen.

They should treat it as 2 or 3 test series for individual pacers.

It can work in Perth and Brisbane.

 

Remember Shami in Perth in late 2018.

Can definitely work in Perth.  Day 1 Perth is absolute fine to bat with little help but as soon as Sun beats down & cracks open up it is heaven for Hit the deck Bowling... Someone like Shami's height was who is not a hit the deck pacer by any means was bowling rip snorters there on day 3.  Imagine Mayank who is a natural hit the deck pacer & bowls above 90-92mph.

That would be ideal.

Let's see if they maintain hierarchy or go for the jugular straight up.

Was following Simarjeet singh performace in Ranji trophy, if he can do well then selectors can also consider him. He is around 6'1 and can bowl in between 140-145 K.

 

Won't be a bad option. Now with injuries to Shami and Prasidh selectors have no option but to go for some of these young bowlers. Going back to Mukesh ,Unadkat and Avesh will not help.

 

But again its upto these young bowlers Simarjeet,Gurnoor,Khaleel etc. they should realize that any decent performance will help them grab a spot in Indian team. Not sure Shami at 34 will be able to make a comeback, won't be that easy
