We've already had this discussion. I haven't said Dhoni is above criticism since as the captain he's responsible for the team's results. But there's a big difference between responsibility and blame. England's third seamer, Liam Plunkett has taken 14 wickets in his past three tests since coming back into the team and that too on two grounds which were pretty flat. He's used specifically for a role to attack right handers around the wicket with short pitched bowling around the ribs bowling between 85-90mph with consistent and accurate bowling. We only have one bowler in the entire squad who's taken more wickets than Plunkett in the last 3 tests and that's Sharma who's not consistent, accurate or can bowl with the same kind of venom and anywhere near that pace. As a matter of fact, Sharma is more likely to bowl mediocre overs, and no balls than take wickets. That's not my opinion, symptoms/disease but plain and simple fact. No captain in the world is going to magic our fast bowling attack to that anything close to what England, South Africa, Australia, hell even New Zealand have. Anyone who wants to blame Dhoni for that, fine. Anyone who wants to replace Dhoni for that, fine. But that isn't going to make our bits and pieces bowlers better.

And the ECB does plenty to protect Cook as well. The reason why Cook gets so much flak is because he has a lot more bowling resources (minus spin) on home grounds where he's not adapted quickly enough and far too often just throws to the ball to Anderson/Broad expecting them to do it time and time again.
