Most people in India ( especially rural india) don't give a crap about football especially when its played at midnight time according to IST. The situation maybe same for BD & Pakistan. But comparing it with cricket being a rather popular sport in this region & it being played in england & people in SC getting to view it in the evenings means huge viewership. This champions trophy also had India playing the best cricket in recent times. I can totally imagine football wc being outviewed by cricket in asia heck even the earlier ipl finals may would have gotten more viewership in asia then this years wc final got in asia .

WC had lesser viewership because it was night in SC and China and both dont care much anyway its just Argentina/Brazin and Germany two mini pop countries and one medium. Cricket on the other had had India and England 1 sub continent and 1 medium.

Vilander Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Bloody you will have 1.2 cr in India, 186 mil in pak and 170 mil in BD then say cricket has more viewership...of-course it will but low spending and poor very less appeal compared to the west european 300 odd mil and south american 200 odd mil i suppose not to mention the new USA market. Cricket is played in Indian SC and Eng/Aus and some other earst while colonies Football is played in south america and Europe but much better managed and spread across by FIFA in comparison to ICC..India needs to send some of its cricketers say outside of national reckoning ut very good to USA and create a USA team for next world cup.

Is every tom , dick , harry going to leave all his work and sit in front of a television for two neutral teams ? I am sure there was a big difference between the number of viewers who watched the 2007 and 2011 WC Finals in India.

It's not as if India, Pakistan and Bangladesh do not watch football WC finals, either. I think accounting for every factor - that is still (if true) a staggering statistic. It also shows that something like T20 can eclipse football in revenues or viewership. India's population ALSO watches football. Football has 4 times as many countries and more popularity that cricket has. It works both ways. FIFA WC finals is THE biggest event in Europe and even if their team isn't playing they WILL watch the game.
