SLICKR392 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 so ashwin for Jadeja and Pankaj for Binny? Ashwin for Jadeja. Either one of the seamer for Binny.
brendan07 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 You will need 5 bowlers in the next test now whether that is Binny, Ashwin or another quick. I'd be leaning towards Ashwin, but 2 spinners in a side in England? Not sure I agree with that in theory. Who are the other bowlers in the squad?
Zestian Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 My team would go as - Gambhir Vijay Pujara Rahane Kohli © Saha (wk) Ashwin Jadeja Bhuvi Ishant Shami Aaron ( For Shami/Jadeja ) Bring in Aaron in place of Shami if they need to give him some rest and if not then Aaron for Jadeja... Rahane should bat at 4 and Kohli should bat at 5 IMO
ThePhenomenal1 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 OUT - binny In - aaron if its pacy. Ashwin if its for spinners NO ROHIT. We have yet to get a 50 from kohli and some big runs from him and pujara. dhawan due runs. so batting is fine with ashwin in.
King Tendulkar Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Those saying need 5 bowlers to win a test. We just won a test with 4(binny was 5th but basically did not bowl)!
vvvslaxman Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Those saying need 5 bowlers to win a test. We just won a test with 4(binny was 5th but basically did not bowl)! We could say the same we won the test with 5 batsmen excluding Dhoni. Rohit does not bring anything to the table as such.
Straight Drive Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I don't think they will change a winning team unless it has more turn.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Those saying need 5 bowlers to win a test. We just won a test with 4(binny was 5th but basically did not bowl)! You dont NEED 5 to win, but it INCREASES THE CHANCES. See how we couldnt break the 100 run partnership between ali and root? A 4th seamer could have. You have more fresh bowlers and more potency with say, an aaron or pankaj in the attack. but yh binny was useless. doesnt mean the 5 bowler theory doesnt work.

cowboysfan Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Gg and pankaj in but I have no faith in gambhir though.
cowboysfan Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Those saying need 5 bowlers to win a test. We just won a test with 4(binny was 5th but basically did not bowl)! Spends on the pitch though,if its flat then it won't make any difference.
FreakazoiD Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Binny may have been a passenger in this game, but I doubt very much that Ashwin or Rohit will contribute much if they play instead. As a commentator rightly put it on telly, players always look better when they aren't playing. Another of those 1/150 performances that Ashwin is famous for, and we'll see these very pages filled with "Fatwin" groans in no time. Honestly, I do not think swapping Binny for Rohit or Ashwin is going to make much of a difference to the ultimate result. It is the rest of the XI that will have to deliver, quite simply because we do not have a world beater sitting on the bench.
rkt.india Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Dhoni did not bowl Bhuvi in his early tests as well. Said this on the Binny thread, had we lost, Binny's career would be over. But the win gets him another opportunity. Got a rough one in the 1st innings and had a brain freeze in the 2nd. Created a chance with the ball. Dhoni will keep him in the side. BK always got new ball, didnt bowl much because conditions didnt suit him. Spinners did the job. Completely different situation here.

The issue is about the lack of use of Binny. He's simply not being used at all. Playing Rohit will allow an in form Rahane to have a batting partner and shield MS/Jadeja from the 2nd new ball. Already better since Binny is only playing at 8. Playing Ashwin will also allow to strengthen the lower order batting and more bowling options since Binny isn't used as the extra bowler.
adi B Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Binny out,Pankaj/Aaron in.rest the same, will take one last chance with pawan
NareshK Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Its quite obvious batting lineup is looking thin with Dhawan and Kohli not scoring. We are lucky in a way that Vijay, Pujara, Rahane have been scoring most often and Bhuvi has been contributing as well. But Dhoni is batting too high at 6, Jadeja is a hit or miss type batsman. Binny and Ashwin are also not proper batsmen that you can back to score in these conditions. They are just bowlers who can contribute some runs and they can get out just as easily. You can't say Vijay, Pujara, Rahane will click in every innings and there will be lot of pressure on them as well. So we need an extra batsman, either Gambhir or Rohit.
zep1706 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Binny out' date='Pankaj/Aaron in.rest the same, will take one last chance with pawan[/quote'] That would make the batting lineup too weak. The only viable option is Ashwin in for Binny. Rose Bowl should also help Ashwin as it turns on day 4 and 5.

Two spinners are useless in England unless the pitch is really dry. Ashwin won't do anything unless the pitch turns square which will never be the case in England. Again picking him because he can add some runs is not a right move. Its the same logic which lead to Binny's selection and we are lucky it didnt prove too costly. Rather they should pick a specialist batsman instead. Or they could pick a specialist seamer. We will be a batsman short but we will have a formidable bowling attack. Its a bit of a bold move but its a positive move.
vvvslaxman Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Kohli will come to the party soon. His failures are surprising given the conditions in TB . We don't need extra batsman since others are in good form. Only if you 4 or 5 batsmen in poor form then you need extra batsman. We had 7 batsmen in both England and Australia tour.. We did not cross 300 even once. It is form that is important not numbers. For bowlers they need some breathing space from time to time. That is where our fifth bowler comes in.

Rose Bowl should also help Ashwin as it turns on day 4 and 5. I don't care much about the batting line up(its pretty strong at the top and bhuvi in the tail),I only care about 20 test wkts.ashwin won't and can't perform better than a fourth seamer in these conditions .I'll pick 4 pacers and jadeja, use the 4th pacer judiciously but justifiably.
