I listened to his interview live and the grass will be there as a precaution against 5 days of the beating sun. It wont be green as Lord and that pitch was an aberration but it looks pretty much like Headingly against SL or Trentbridge in 2011.

Trent Bridge in 2011 was pretty nasty in the first innings. Might seam around more than Lord's on Day3s and 4s.
saneindian Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Good for us. We need the pitch to keep helping the bowlers on all 5 days for our bowling unit to be effective. Also such pitches where wickets keep falling produce far better cricket so kudos to the groundsman.

Won last test with 4 bowlers (binny not used by dhoni) Get another bat in to have top 6 strong. Pile on the runs and put score board pressure. Put score on board this will crack England. Plus batting dhoni at 6 is madness

When batting friendly like maybe on flat indian track, then yeah have faith that batting will pile on runs and also will need extra bowlers as tough to get wickets and need work load shared. But when bowler friendly conditions no need for 5 bowlers as last test showed. Particularly when have spinner like jadeja who is almost guaranteed to at least keep scoring down from one end and bowl plenty of overs.

On a pitch like Lords some times can be good for batsmen early on because ball moves quite a lot and most of the time ball will beat batsmen who wont be good enough to get edges especially in first session if a batsmen is patient enough and does not throw his bat. Bu on pitches where, seam movement is less, bowlers are more likely get edges and lose quick wickets early on.

Playing 5 bowlers when Dhoni, Jaddu are not trustworthy and Kohli, Dhawan are not among runs is very risky. He is even more likely to go with Binny again.
