SLICKR392 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Gambhir is even more of a poker than Dhawan. Batsmen who poke outside off stump have no chance of surviving in England. Dhawan's problems are more than poking outside off.
Insidious Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 If ishant is not playing the 4th test then what is point for keeping him in the squad for only 1 test? what is the gurantee he will get fit by 5 th test? we can't wait for 5th test. what we have to do we have to do now. if ishant is not fit he should leave the squad immeditely and selectors should send yadav ASAP to replace him. Team management need to be pro-active .
ThePhenomenal1 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 It all stems from the top. When Dhoni took charge as T20 captain' date=' overnight the team changed 180 degrees. Batting, bowling and fielding had a new energy. Every expert pointed this out. Now this decline is a symptom of a bigger rot, no energy, no positivity and confused players. It again boils from the top and lack of a leader who can energize or motivate his own team members[/quote'] :hatsoff: agree completely. New captain, youth, energy, understanding. Dhoni is finished, has no new ideas. Captain cool is done and was done at the WC 2011, or even CT13. Should have given captaincy to kohli after wi series and held on to ODI cap till after wc 15. Kohli as captain would be awesome. Just have a good feeling. Team always looks rejuvenated when someone line kohli or raina captains. We dont have a lack of bowlers who can take 20. Its how they are USED. They are used defensively and are overbowled. Its a nightmare. Then the bowlers get toyed with and used to make records, i.e. root-anderson. Plus no yadav selected
adi B Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 OT pitch was pretty flat in the last ashes but it did have something in it for fast bowlers as well as spinners.so a 3 pace two spin attack won't be bad but I am still tilted towards a 4 pacers,1 spinner bowling attack.the pitch Will suit India tbh so go with 5 bowlers with positive mindset. India should just watch the lengths rhino bowled last year, impeccable line and lengths and they should have won the match
Fontaine Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 We dont have a lack of bowlers who can take 20. Its how they are USED. They are used defensively and are overbowled. Its a nightmare. Then the bowlers get toyed with and used to make records, i.e. root-anderson. That's an over simplification. Yes Dhoni does get defensive but not all the time and immediately. Pretty every captain in the game sets defensive fields to restrict runs when the batsmen are on top. I'm not saying Dhoni is a great captain and shouldn't be held responsible. Absolutely he's responsible. But for goodness sake be realistic - a new captain isn't going to make our bowlers better and regularly take 20 wickets abroad regardless of what fields are set. You have to be honest about our bowling resources and the fact is India don't have the pace bowlers that are good enough or consistent enough to bowl out sides. It's been that way for a very long time regardless of who the captain is. Dravid, Ganguly and Kumble were all very different captains and it's not like we were terrorizing opposing batsmen and bowling sides out because our aggressive field placements on away tours. And seriously, please don't talk about our young bowlers being overbowled. Anderson and Broad have been the most overbowled guys in world cricket for the past two-three years but they produce results because they are simply better. The same with guys like Ryan Harris, Steyn, Morkel etc. We can have the same discussion for the next 30 years but until India start producing quality bowlers and not just one or two guys once in a while then it's not going to matter who's captain. You can't just magic 20 wickets because of field placements, energy, fresh ideas, young blood and so on.
vvvslaxman Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Tell me honestly would Dhoni have defended the total of 105 against Bangladesh? I am 100% sure he would have failed and blamed the batsmen. He is a below average captain when it comes to extracting the best out of fast bowlers. When Zak was in form he was designated as captain for bowling. He has gone off the boil as he himself started struggling. Now tony is nowhere to go. So he would come up with some random strategies. When it works take the credit from bowlers . When it doesn't ' I told them to hit the top of off stump they didn't'
Deleted_User_1 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 What's the point? Triple C will select the same team with his usual chamchas!!
virufan Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Give Ashwin atleast 1 test, common. Drop Jadeja. . Bring in GG instead of Rohit, or bring the in-form Ojha instead of Rohit. Let Ojha open.He has done that before. Push Dhawan down the order, he is not that bad against the old ball. If no Bhuvi, bring Aaron. Do not drop Shami for now as Ishwar Pandey is too raw. No one to head the bowling attack. . .

When he selects only 3 genuine bowlers to take 20 wickets, they will tire. So for one, that overburdens bowlers and can mess up how they bowl. Two, they are under a lot of pressure. Three, you cant compare anderson and broad who are part of a 5 bowler unit including 4 pacers. Hence they have shorter spells and are fresh. Contrast that with captain clueless and his use of an inexperienced attack 2. Bowlers need to be potent and imo they are. Something's up with shami so he needs to be persisted with and checked out. We have aaron and pandey ready and they should come in. They can take wickets for sure but u need a proactive captain that supports them. And you need to set the right fields to encourage them. 3. He bowls jadeja and rohit sharma on DAY 1! The result of going in with 3 pacers and a spinner who is used defensively. 4. IMO, india has the bowling resources but not the mentality. They havent all got a wicket taking mentality, as they are told to be defensive. Let a guy like ashwin attack and there is a difference in his approach, same with jadeja. We need a new captain now!

In reality, he just did the same basics dhoni talks about but was more aggressive.

Then why is that when India bowled in the last test match they got gentle swing, some occasional movement and bowled some "nice" deliveries. When Anderson/Broad were bowling at 85-90mph it looked like a completely different pitch. You can replace the captain, coach, selectors etc. Replace everyone. But that doesn't change the fact that most test playing nations outside of maybe one or two have a better pace bowling attack than India's.

But that doesn't change the fact that most test playing nations outside of maybe one or two have a better pace bowling attack than India's. It didn't look like a different pitch at all. Indian batsmen played shots outside the off stump to get out. Now you are just making up things to prove a point. Indian bowlers, particularly Pankaj, bowled a lot of similar deliveries, except the English batsmen were more disciplined to let them go and knew that in the absence of a 4th decent bowler, they just need to tire out the main bowlers. Not to mention that every commentator mentioned that the pitch was easiest to play on day 1 and 2 and got progressively more helpful to the bowlers You can keep blaming the bowling after every defeat and not improve for a 100 more tests. Easiest way out, do nothing, blame the bowling, sit back and relax. Ultimate defeatist attitude All our bowlers are young and skillful. They need a hella lot of direction and grooming. Killing them by over bowling (you defended BK's bowling 10 overs at a trot) is definitely no way to prepare for the future, unless you deliberately want bowlers to be ruined so that bowling can always be the scapegoat

You're right there, our bowlers weren't putting enough effort into the bowling, they were floating the ball essentially. Pankaj was hitting the deck and thats what we needed. Shami used to do that but has really gone off so aaron should come in for him. I'd also bring in pandey for bhuvi as he can hit the deck when he wants. India, outside of ishant, have hardly any test experience. These are still young guys. They have shown promise. Anderson and broad have been groomed from the start and thats what india doesn't do. We should still be having sreesanth and RP singh in the mix but it was poor management and poor choices from the two, i.e. getting fat and going astray. India has bowlers then loses them - its a consistent problem. Bowlers aren't respected or treated right, its all about management too. When broad got hit for six sixes im sure ECB still backed him and groomed him to be a world class bowler. We can do the same but no initiative shown. Hence we always start from scratch with inexperience then complain we have no bowlers. Back them, groom them, force good fields for them, support them, rotate them, manage them and pay them NOT to play IPL and to focus on tests/odis. We have yadav, our best test bowler, playing A-tours and i bet he wont even be picked for aus tour later this year. There is simply no management and dhoni has a hand in that

putrevus Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Some people still have no fricking clue, it is just so easy to say well India does not have any fast bowlers so changing captain or selectors wont make any difference. That is biggest problem facing Indian cricket and maintaining its status quo in regards to dhobi. Every moron who played or watched cricket can spot Indian fast bowlers are very weak, no rocket science is needed for it. Managing the weakest crop of bowlers and getting optimum results from them is the need of the hour and Dhobi is not doing one iota to help that cause. It may be harder to get wickets for fast bowlers in tests in India but they do get lot of rest in between spells when spinners operate there at least and that reason alone is making Indian fast bowlers are not able compete when they tour abroad. So spacing of overs is never a problem there and teams don't run away with matches when facing spinners in India even on first morning. A indian fast bowler rarely bowls more than 5 to 7 overs even on first session of first day of a test so they have no clue what it means to come back and bowl second spell in same sessions and again comeback and bowl one of two spells in each session rest of day and repeat this three days in addition to being least talented to begin with when playing overseas tests. Repeating that exercise for five tests is almost a task too big for both fast bowlers and captain. Dhobi in theory played 5 bowlers for first two tests but that moron never used that fifth bowler effectively and making it a three man attack again with jadeja remaining useless as he has been all thru the series.
adi B Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Dhoni has got no clue on how to use his bowlers and he doesn't know how to rotate the bowlers well or use the fifth bowler.his thinking is stale, obsolete
