Knowing fully well he was going to play a debutant. So bowling resource was severely depleted. If your goal is to get 20 wickets you should pack your side with 5 best bowling options available and rotate them i ntelligently enough to get wickets. What was the point of going in with 6 batsmen plus 2 semi all rounders and himse Shami - out of form Pankaj - debut Bhuvan - already severely overworked like a donkey Jaddu - average form With this bowling line up how was he going to get 20 wickets on a flat deck? If we could have skillted them out for 370, you wouldn't need a 6th batsman. Cook's field setting would not have been aggressive througout the innings. There is a cascading effect England has two seasoned veteran bowlers. Broad and Anderson. They have a 5th and 6th bowling options who are better than our part timers. What does India have? An overbowled BHuvaneswar. That's it. consdorign the form of our batmen , its not good to go with 6 bowlwers.. dhawan and rat are out of form and puj not doign anything big so far

That is not rocket science.

Having 5 bowlers gives enough resource options to exploit either pace wicket or spin wicket.

But it is pretty clear to me that he does not understand test cricket and his approach is very defensive. The Indian team needs a new captain with fresh ideas. Dhoni does certain things for personal reasons. For instance handling of Binny in his debut ODI and in Tests. When someone makes a debut. You encourage him as much as possible and make sure he belongs. Not giving a step motherly treatment. That was shockingly obvious.

He goes by his gut feeling instead of conventional wisdom. That is his biggest problem. Test cricket needs traditional captaincy for 95% of the time. If that's not working then you rely on your instincts. But stick to the basics of the game as long as it is working.

That is exactly what is wrong with his captaincy. He does not understand the conventional approach in test cricket.

Give the responsibility to someone, if he's good enough he would survive otherwise get the next guy in.

If they had adopted that Policy, Kapil dev, Gavaskar , Vengsarkar would have never lost their captaincy. Because their loss is negligible compared to this . You cannot automatically assume changing captaincy won't change. How do you know that when some of the tactics he makes are ridiculously innocuous. If not for anything heat should be on captain to deliver. If there is no heat there will not be any accountability.

Remember, Dhoni has to play and he hardly qualifies as a batsman. Even at his best form, he can at max hit 50 and not big 100s as we need when playing 6 bowlers 2) Out of that 4 batsmen two have to be specialist openers. So 2 have to be out of Murali, Gambhir and Dhawan. Neither, Gambhir or Dhawan are in form, so we will be playing with 3 bats. Playing out of form players like Rohit or Pujara as openers would be a death knell for them. So basically in overseas condition we will go with 2-3 batsmen if we play 6 bowlers.

When a young captain is given the rein, it brings a huge change in the energy and approach of the team. You could see the 180 degree change in the same youngsters under Dhoni and under previous captains. This is what a new captain can do. The same bowlers were bowling like demons, fielders were fielding like crazy under young Dhoni. If your theory was right, changing captain shouldn't have worked at all even in the T20 cup we won Even the best of captains have a shelf life. Otherwise captains like Smith would have continued much longer. Dhoni's ideas and energy have gone stale. Too much cricket does this to people and burns them out And how is batting fine when on the flattest of pitches they throw their wickets away? We keep on blaming bowling when our much vaunted IPL batsmen cannot score even a 50 on flat pitches.

WTH After all these years do u not know who is the only constant in this team .First the seniors were blamed now the juniors.In cricket the buck stops ta the captain he did not deserve to be captain after 4-0 in australia,Past does not matter ,This is a professional sport and they are not doing it for u or me or nay fan.If u do not perform for a period of time you go.
