Actually I think ashwin can become a good tactical captain but then he's not even a regular. Dhoni has to go ,there's no doubt about it,should have been sacked as the captain 2 years ago 2 years ago it made sense because likes of sehwag,gambhir,zak and bhajji were still around....who knows maybe captaincy would have made them work on their game a little harder but with the current squad we are stuck I am afraid.

Some idiot said pujara and kohli have not shown that they belong at the test level yet they have scored overseas hundreds and 50s. Show some faith, take a brave step and sack dhoni from tests. Form is temporary. Its not like kohli is struggling in the Cook sense. He still made a good 39 and looked pretty good. Just couldnt convert. Give him the captaincy and let him run with it. I'd take that gamble anyday. People said it would affect his batting when he was scoring 100s, now they say he is out of form so dont give it.. when will he get it then?! Do people forget that dhoni has no overseas test 100s yet was captain? Kohli has 1 in 3 overseas nations except england. He has an ODI 100 in england though!

maniac Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Thing about kohlis test stats which are baffling is that he doesn't have the excuse a dhawan or rahane have for them averaging in the 40s that they have played most of their international test cricket overseas. Kohli has had enough games both at home and away to have a much higher average and his ability too deserves a much higher average than what he has. Pujara has really cashed in at home whenever he had a chance,but that stigma of being a one format player is not helping him I think.

If zak was still around or bhajji hadn't fallen of the radar completely than May be but let me play the devils advocate here for a second and try to analyze the options Kohli- before the series hands down would have voted for him but the way he has performed in this series and to add to that his overall test record where he has been patchy at best ...yes patchy....he still averages in the low 40s doesn't give me the confidence. In Odis yes absolutely but for what it's worth dhoni is ok in s.c and he has a gun odi side which will win him games so really not much of a concern. Kohli is our future batting great but at a time he is still finding his feet at the test level,don't think it is the way to go. Pujara- well pujara has had 2 back to back mediocre series now.the fact that he is not a loi player and his obvious focus right now being to break through the ranks don't think it will work.different captains for different formats just doesn't work in s.c culture. Vijay,Bhuvi and rahane-even though they have done well for themselves so far from a consistency standpoint,let's be honest this was their breakthrough series.....even though they might have contributed in the previous series,this is probably the first series where it finally felt that ,yes these guys are a must in the starting x1.even though rahane has been our best test performer don't know how much credentials he has as a leader. Rohit,Ashwin,ishant- I mentioned these names only because they have been around the team for a very long time but they are still fringe players at best.ishant has finally done justice for getting a long run but there is always a ? On his consistency and most importantly his temperament.ashwin seems to have great cricketing acumen and seems like an articulate guy but he is a fringe player currently.rohit has been identified as a potential leader atleast at the Ipl level but again fringe player and relatively new to the test format. Binny,jadeja-bits and pieces cricketers. Shami,pankaj,dhawan etc- have their own place in jeapordy. Now go back and apologize in the "Dhoni i s the biggest freeloader" thread :cantstop:

Captaincy is the only thing that justifies his selection in the team not his individual performance. When I say captaincy not because of the skills he possess which we all know about :giggle: but more like lets not touch something we can't fix currently dilemma

Kumble captained for almost 1 year and handed the reign over to dhoni in 2008 when dhoni had almost 2.5-3 years of intl test cricket experience,close to 30 matches(which is enough tbh). Now dhoni has captained these young players for 2 years now and guys like kohli and Pujara have played close to 30 tests and 3 years of experience (similar to dhoni's case) ,about Time dhoni hands ovr the reign to either of them but thats not gonna happen for at least 2 more years lol. Dhoni is untouchable!!

Yeah true but that's what I am saying,when dhoni was identified to lead the team it was a gamble for sure but we had veterans in the team as backup and also a lot of dhonis contemporaries age wise like yuvraj,bhajji,zak. In the current team there are not a lot of options or backups atleast this series.....may be kohli will step up,maybe rahane is that guy,we won't know for a while.

Iam sure the team will fight well. However knowing that he may be dropped if Gambhir becomes captain, Dhoni will never play Gambhir and stick with Dhawan.
