Lord Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Batsmen -- selection is more or less on expected lines. Would have preferred Jadhav in place of Rayudu. Spinners -- why Karn Sharma ? Any quality that separates him from the rest ? Pacers ---Why Umesh for ODI ? He is s test bowler. Why no Aaron ? BK and Shami not rested ! There is no " bounce pacer " in the lineup. That may cause some problems.All pacers, apart from Kulkarni, are on the shorter side. Not ideal for outside sub- continent tournaments. The pace lineup is strange. I guess they wanted a leggie without compromising on fielding/batting. To his credit,hes done well in IPL and okay in Aus A tour.

I dont think Rayudu is a bad pick though. I dont agree with the notion that Pujara is a test bat only, his List A record is great he will adapt. We need reliable run scorers in the middle order in ODIs

Umesh only played tests and picked 5 wicket haul on patta and it's not his fault that selectors have no consistency In a tour level he is test specialist and at international level he is now limited over player ? Samson is more explosive and more effective in limited overs cricket. Actually, no. Kedar Jadhav is without question "more explosive and more effective" in limited overs cricket. One only needs to look at their strike rates in first-class, List-A and T20 cricket to find out. Samson vs Jadhav First-class 55.65 vs 66.45 List A 78.47 vs 106.33 T20 121.24 vs 140.70

He has barely played 4 matches since his come back. They need to stick to a core group of bowlers for next 1 years and let them play and improve. Also, Aaron will be better suited to Aus pitches.

That's bs Selectors are lacking brains. Kulkarni played both test and ODs on A tour. Why was Umesh omitted from ODs. They really have some messed up logic. Now Aaron dropped after only playing 4 ODIs since come back like Umesh was dropped after not getting a single game in SA and NZ.

Because BK has bowled so much of late, and Kulkarni seems to be bowling well and deserves a chance to play for India.

Its always important to see the player's technique and temperament and skill rather than just go by numbers. Jadeja has 3 triple centuries and average of 50+ in FC and so does Rohit Sharma and Manish Pandey and a bunch of others who are not that good to be honest. Scoring runs in FC in India is damn easy. You can't take them too seriously.
