Texan Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 The Trinamool Congress Tuesday raised the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering prayers at the Pashupatinath temple in Nepal and claimed that he had not offered people greetings on the Eid. The government refuted this. Sudip Bandopadhyay, Trinamool Congress MP from Kolkata North, raising the issue in the Lok Sabha Tuesday, said he appreciated the prime minister offering prayers at the temple in Nepal, "but it is equally expected that he should offer Eid greetings to the other community". Amid shouts and protests from the ruling benches, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu responded, "The prime minister has offered Eid greetings, which have been widely published. The government believes in the unity of all religions." However, the Congress party was not satisfied by the reply and party member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary sought to speak on the issue. When Speaker Sumitra Mahajan disallowed him, the opposition members trooped near the speaker's podium and the house was adjourned till 12.30 p.m. When the house re-assembled at 12.30 p.m., similar scenes were witnessed and Chowdhary, who was this time allowed to speak, made certain comments which the speaker deemed as personal remarks and disallowed him again. With members of the Samajwadi Party and the Congress again trooping near the speaker's podium, the house was once more adjourned till 2 p.m. Modi, who had offered prayers at Pashupatinath temple Monday, later said he felt "extremely blessed" on offering prayers there. The prime minister prayed at the temple, offered Rs.25 crore to build a 'dharamshala' (inn) in the temple complex, and also donated 2,500 kg of sandalwood. http://www.business-standard.com/article/news-ians/trinamool-raises-modi-s-visit-to-temple-in-nepal-114080501273_1.html

moniker Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Are the offerings to the temple from his own pocket?
Khalpat Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Are the offerings to the temple from his own pocket? Have u asked the same questions to the politicians or Previous PM about cost of giving Ifthar. Who pays it? Beleive me that amount would be no match to the offering given in the temple.
Number Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Offering prayers in temple has become a communal act and must be neutralized with hosting a secular iftaar party.

They never learn . On the topic why ppl never ask such qn to previous pm organizing iftaar parties same qns. Go and suck it up.[/quote'] most bengali 'bhadroloks' dont vote or still vote cpm. Thats the problem. As far as voting goes, educated bengalis are by far the most apathetic towards voting compared to any other educated bunch of indians i've come across. BTW, i don't see why Modi the hindu has to justify praying in a hindu temple. As long as it was officially Mr Narendra Modi visiting the temple and not the PM of India visiting the temple, there is absolutely no questioning all this. And if its the PM of India visiting the temple, it only becomes an issue if it can be proved that this PM is showing total favouritism of his holy site visits to one kind- and Modi simply has not been in power for long enough to establish any such track record. So there is nothing but a bunch of BS from the TMC and Congress.

No. Have u asked the same questions to the politicians or Previous PM about cost of giving Ifthar. Who pays it? Beleive me that amount would be no match to the offering given in the temple. What's the difference between the previous PM and this PM then? The earlier one appealed to one section of the society, this one appeals to another.

The previous ones, though not Muslim, used iftaar parties purely as a pretentious device to score politically with one community. Which one is more likely to be political symbolism ? A devout Hindu politician going to a temple. OR A Sikh politician hosting an iftaar party.

Dont we have enough problems already?? All these politically correctness can be talked about in 5th year before election.. Let the man and his team work for next 4 years..

Crookbond Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 This PM, as a believing Hindu does not shy from practicing his religion. The previous ones, though not Muslim, used iftaar parties purely as a pretentious device to score politically with one community. Which one is more likely to be political symbolism ? A devout Hindu politician going to a temple. OR A Sikh politician hosting an iftaar party. This PM doesn't "shy away" because that's where he gets political mileage from, the other PM got his political mileage from another appeal. Both are equal political symbolism - in one case it is more apparent because of the personal faith, in the other it is subtle. Let me also remind you that that as a citizen of the country, the barometer of measurement of a PM is not how he "doesn't shy away to practice his religion" but how much he takes money out of from my pocket which he did here. So, lets talk about the use of public funds to donate to a religious cause in a foreign country. Don't put kulcha around this.
