Old guy Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 At least, the 6th batsman will get full opportunity to play. Whereas the 5th bowler won't even be put in full use in bowling. His quota can easily be taken by a part time bowler. As written above, when Moeen Ali as a part time spinner has brought chaos in the team, while our spinners have done nothing, so why play 5 bowlers. Play to our strengths, and our batsman are it. what did 6th batsman do in third test ? our 5th bowler easily out batted him
someone Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Did you just wahtch our batting in last test. Dhoni at 6 is suicde. We need ashwins batting massively to strengthen it not to replace a batsman. He needs to come in to bolster the batting and come in at 7' date=' then dhoni at 8. We might then get some runs on the board and give bowlers something to play with[/quote'] :whack: I know you are champion of U-turn. But at least, don't make such ridiculous posts. Dhoni was our one of best batsman last test and in this series. The batsman, Dhoni is fine, so don't allow your plain hatred to say Dhoni at 8. That's laughable.

We don't want to play on a pitch which assists spin and have only 1 spin option.
someone Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 what did 6th batsman do in third test ? our 5th bowler easily out batted him And that's what I am saying, play both. Play Ashwin as our spinner and have a 7 batsman line-up. Our 5th bowler has been completely under used and ineffective in all 4 tests. So why persist with that?

If our batting is crap. Then replace one of them then lending support.I'd open with Pujara and have Dhawan or Rohit lower down.GG out.
someone Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Rohit played in 3rd test. What did he do there ? He also struggled in SA and NZ when there was swing. We don't want to play on a pitch which assists spin and have only 1 spin option. Play Naman Ojha or even give Rohit another chance. But a 5th bowler when our batting is struggling big time doesn't make any sense at all. We need to make our batting as long and in-depth as possible. For that, play 4 bowlers including Ashwin.
Old guy Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 And that's what I am saying, play both. Play Ashwin as our spinner and have a 7 batsman line-up. Our 5th bowler has been completely under used and ineffective in all 4 tests. So why persist with that? problem is 3 quicks are just not good enough to last 5 days so we need 4th one our tail other than this match has done well and i can argue ashwin is counted as tail and even here he did well what is the point of rohit when he will contribute nothing ? better just play ishant if he is fit and drop jadeja that way bowling gets stronger and will last all 5 days
rkt.india Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 India have to go with 5 bowlers. 6th batsman is not going to solve batting problems. The top 5 batsmen have to put runs on the board. If they fail, little chance that 6th batsman will add anything especially when its Rohit who is vulnerable in these conditions. In any case, we have Ashwin, Dhoni, Jaddu, Bhuvi to make up for 6th batsman. Ishant should come in for Pankaj. Dhawan for Gambhir, though I doubt he will be dropped after 1 game. Rest should be the same team. jaddu-Bhuvi will only if pitch lacks any pace bounce. Last two tests, we had pace and bounce they struggled. Cant depend on them for batting. Batsmen should bat and score runs, bowlers should bowl and take wickets. If they cannot do that then try someone else.
rkt.india Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 4 seamers on a flat, dry surface at Oval ? We also played 2 spinners on an Old Trafford surface which had pace and bounce. This is called not selecting team based on conditions. we dont yet know how the pitch will be. Oval always have some pace and bounce. Mostly its a flat track which doesnt assist spinners much.
NareshK Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 we dont yet know how the pitch will be. Oval always have some pace and bounce. Mostly its a flat track which doesnt assist spinners much. Yes, obviously team should be selected based on conditions. If the pitch is hard and offers pace and bounce, they should go with Ishant and Shami instead of Jaddu and Pankaj. Otherwise, if it looks dry it will assist turn as game goes on. In that case, select Jaddu and Ashwin.
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 :whack: I know you are champion of U-turn. But at least, don't make such ridiculous posts. Dhoni was our one of best batsman last test and in this series. The batsman, Dhoni is fine, so don't allow your plain hatred to say Dhoni at 8. That's laughable. Er one mediocre test series and suddenly fan boys proclaim all is well :hysterical: Dude check out his average this seires, nothing good And if so great now, then him coming in at 8 is great and adds strength to weak batting line up The guy has never scored a ton outside India and you write the above, seriously delusional and crazy fan boy
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Rohit played in 3rd test. What did he do there ? He also struggled in SA and NZ when there was swing. We don't want to play on a pitch which assists spin and have only 1 spin option. Play another batsman at 6 then!! Playing 6 proper bats, that does not mean rohit, you can play another bat you know!
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 what did 6th batsman do in third test ? our 5th bowler easily out batted him Play a different batsman then, or did that idea escape you? Did you see our batting in last test and one before? Yet you want 5 batsman, suicide! Guess what, in last tes we commiteed suicide and bowled out in one session yet some still want only 5 batsman

Sooda Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 ^With the squad we have right now the only option aside from Rohit is opening with Dhawan and Vijay and GG at no 3. Even if the ODI squad is here, EVEN if we want to get someone from India- which will not happen, really who is there who will come in at short notice as rescue us on a tough away tour like this...
bowl_out Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 4 bowlers on a flat track is suicidal. We will overwork two of them and concede a 500+ total easily
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 if current batsmen are not scoring then change them' date='why penalise bowling for that to lend support[/quote'] Penalise bowling!! This is not us against them Batting weak, so need 6 batsman. Weak teams streghthen batting and at least try and put runs on board to give bowlers something to play with I tell you what bowlers want, batsman to bat all day and put runs on the board. Then can attack more and have score board pressure. We need 6 bats, then ashwin at 7, mr corrupt at 8. Stronger batting We got bowled out in one session FFS, match over in 3 days. You don't win nothing without runs on the board, no matter how many bowlers you have I cant belive after watching our batting in last 2 tests that some don't get batting needs to be strengthened some how. Dhoni at 6, o come on!!! Bloke who has never in his whole carrer scored a tome outside india, is number 6!!! Jeez. Laxman used to be at 6, he used to get massive tons at 6!! Bowlers got nice rest then, then 4 bowlers is fine!
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I love the logic some are providing. i.e that our batsman are uselss so why bother playing 6 just stick with 5:hysterical:
NareshK Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I love the logic some are providing. i.e that our batsman are uselss so why bother playing 6 just stick with 5:hysterical: That's not the logic if you took some time reading the posts. Ashwin is a better bat than Rohit anyway. So select 5 bowlers to give you options to take 20 wickets as none of the 4 bowlers you select will run through a side. They need backup. A spinner or a seamer depending on conditions.

Pick 5 best batsmen plus Ashwin and Dhoni can bat.Even BK can hang around. That is enough. We still need bowlers who can take wickets in case batsmen put up a score.4 bowlers including spinner is not enough
