Ashwin didn't get to bowl on the 4th and 5th days thanks to the wonderful batting effort that helped close the match in 2 and a half days. Deserves more opportunities.

Mishra would be a world beater if he was mentally strong. But he isn't. So no point talking about him. Ashwin would eventually make his mark as a bowler in overseas conditions. But yes, we do need a bigger and better pool of spinners to choose from. The very fact that our domestic circuit right now has only 2-3 proper off spinners (Ashwin, Bhajji, Rasool) makes me sick. Our general spin bowling resources are depleted too.

Too early to say, obviously jaddu can only do well on rank turners but on these pitches darter like him have no chance. Pls don't carried away with the success of moeen ali and blaming our spiinners for not replicating the same. Its not that moeen ali bowled some unplayable deliveries, its just the score board pressure that got us on both occassion. We were way behind england, and our young batting line up panicked under pressure. simple as that! Similarly when england have to chase 300+ in lords, they panicked , it doesn't mean that ishant is better than Broad n Anderson or he was bowling any magic ball!

I am of the opinion that Ashwin should be played as a batting all rounder. I feel he has the batting skills to play as a permanent #6. Needs to cut down on the pull shots and play a bit responsibly. It would be great if he can play that role. Then India would be able to play 4 more bowlers. But it really depends on if he is good enough to play as a genuine batsman. So far it seems to me that he is. Jadeja should not play test cricket, certainly not outside India. Durban was a fluke.

This. Too early to take a call. Although it is time for Ashwin to really take a call whether he can be a stock spinner for us. And we need to get a legspinner out there.

no. Even other spinner won't be successful straighaway.No Warne in domestics AFAIK. Ashwin should be given a rope coz he can bat well for no.7 and be a 5th bowler. Even Jaddu's average of 46 isnt that bad considering the conditions and way Dhoni uses him.First we need a captain who uses spinners to attack.Even Cook uses Ali better

Yeah Dhoni still is clueless about using spinners especially overseas. England were what? 160-170/6 in last test match, and spinners were operating - with just a slop and a close in fielder and that's it. The two batsmen were easily rotating strike and Dhoni was the one playing for lunch it seemed. that was disgraceful. He cannot claim excuse of not knowing conditions because it's his third tour to England. Wish there was someone like Sachin who could give important tips in such times. How many times have we seen Sachin going up to Dhoni, suggesting a change and that working/ But we hardly see that here. It doesn't help that Dhoni doesn't have anyone experienced around him. either, during the match. The captain-in-waiting Virat is busy sleeping when not thinking about Anushka in the slips and while batting.

kuldeep needs to be given more chances, was impressive in u19s but needs the opportunity to push for a spot in the test, ODI and t20I team.

Jadeja is NOT a regular bowler. Nor is he good enough to be a pure batsmen. He has been punching above his weight for a while. But in India, lots of part timers have shined over the year. That does NOT mean than we always carry a bits and pieces cricketer over regular ones Problem with Dhoni is, he is a street smart cricketer. He can make best use of limited resources, move them around smoothly, make surprising changes. This doesn't work in tests, particularly over seas LOIs and T20s are like street fights. You can suddenly spring a surprise, give a sucker punch and win the match. A street smart person will usually always prevail even over talented fighters A Test series is like a war. A captain has to be like a general building long time strategies. Each test is a battle. In war you use your best possible specialists, not bits and pieces soldiers. You don't try to go for one sucker punch or one big strike to end all. You weaken the enemy slowly, target their weak points over a period before finishing them off. Dhoni is street smart. But expecting a street smart captain to prevail in tests is like expecting an ad hoc volunteer to be a brain surgeon. The former will come good in small crisis andd play his part, but you need a specialist to do brain surgery

Like I always say. For spinners to be effective need runs on the board We are not getting runs s spinners have nothing to bowl with England suddenly scoring runs so Ali no effective. Kumble was pants overseas, then galiticos started piling on huge totals and he flourished overseas We need big runs on scoreboard then spinners and to lesser extent seamers will do much better due to score board pressure and ability to then set attacking fields
