sensible-indian Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 hes not as fast as Jaddu, neither as slow as Ashwin.Just the right pace.Being home spinner I guess he knows the right pace for these tracks. Still nothing alarming stuff.Just some poor batting Yes but he gets the occasional sharp spin (which Jaddu isn't getting) and attacks both edges of the bat. To be frank, I have seen Bhajji attack both the edges when he bowls well. Ashwin rarely does that (if at all). Talking about bowling to right handers only.
rkt.india Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 He was pathetic vs SL' date='averaging 60+.Good for a part timer but not nearly as good as we've made him look.[/quote'] He is getting better now the more he is bowling. he is getting better every innings. Even there he did bowl. Even Herath was not special there apart form first test. He has most of the ingredients a good spinner should have good control, good revs, and subtlety. You cannot hold on to those first few tests all the time. He was poor even against us in first 2 tests, but credit where due. He has improved and beaten our batsmen in flight and variation of pace.

I think that is just a perception(getting spin) due to our batsmen playing him poorly. When Ashwin was batting against him,he again looked mediocre. OTOH,English batsmen don't play stupidly and just take the runs on offer wth Dhoni's defensie fields

Reason I mentioned those Tests as they were very recent. So there can be hardly such big improvement in such short time

Reason I mentioned those Tests as they were very recent. So there can be hardly such big improvement in such short time Because he was new, might not be confident enough. There is a huge difference in his bowling now or 3 tests back. He was giving boundary balls then, not anymore.

He got wickets both ways batsmen defending and attacking. In third test when he took 6-fer, none of the batsman got out attacking him. Puajra and Jadeja last game got out defending. He is bowling great areas too.
sensible-indian Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I think that is just a perception(getting spin) due to our batsmen playing him poorly. When Ashwin was batting against him,he again looked mediocre. OTOH,English batsmen don't play stupidly and just take the runs on offer wth Dhoni's defensie fields He was getting some ball to spin. Imparts more revolution to the ball. When Ashwin played, he looked comfortably playable (won't say mediocre). Ashwin was careful against him. Anyways, I am not rating Moeen here by the way but he is better than a part timer. We have been way too much rubbish against him. True about Dhoni's fields. How the hell can Ashwin flight the ball if one is going to have a long on? Bell was driving it and taking easy singles. Contrast that to Ashwin's flighted deliveries to Ballance who drove it but could not go past the mid off and hence the pressure was built. Ashwin was actually getting the batsmen to play on front foot but the field placing was horrible. But what to do - with only 150 on board - it was always a tough ask. Defensive fields were bound to come up.
Scarves Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I don't think they are saying he is amazing, he is just destroying India who are supposed to be the best players of spin. If anything people are just laughing at India as a solid part timer can clean them up.

Not just there,Dhoni came up with 7-2 leg side field on first day of Southampton Test for Jaddu, killing whatever chances he had to induce a mistake  That day series was changed :((
Saad Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Who calls him Kumble or Warne lol? you kidding right? He's still new and learning new things. I rate him as a very basic spinner.
Sachin=GOD Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Its the Indian batting which is currently overrated.
Old guy Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Its the Indian batting which is currently overrated. yep
Marco Polo Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 As a spinner he bowls fast. Almost around 88-95kph. Indian batsmen have always struggled against that pace.

sachin34357 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 no one has called him world class so how can he be overrated :wall:
sachin34357 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 anyways, he's ranked 33rd in test bowling rankings. 5th highest Englishman
jusarrived Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 T20 has nothing to do with it. You take this captain and vice captain out and the new team will finish him off. you mean take the two best players of spin in the side out ?
jusarrived Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 We lost a test match to Shaun Udal , this is not the first time we have struggled against unknown rookie bowlers
YCCC Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 He's served a purpose for this series but he should not be a long term option for England. Other teams should be able to play him better than India if they play sensibly. I would like to see Adil Rashid finally given a chance. A good leggie is like gold dust in international cricket, and there are two potentially very good ones playing in county cricket, in Rashid and Scott Borthwick
