Straight Drive Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Administrator are the problem. Not the only one. Bad batting in some matches, bad captaincy, bad bowling in other, bad fielding in rest, bad selections in some matches. Sometimes combination of one of more of these is the problem area causing further downfall. Good that we play against Windies at home next. Might mask a lot of flaws and help us forget the dreadful overseas past.
Old guy Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Agree ..but I guess people are angry because of last many tours and not just this one and to me people remembering test cricket loses is not a bad thing
Straight Drive Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Agree ..but I guess people are angry because of last many tours and not just this one and to me people remembering test cricket loses is not a bad thing If the win to loss ratio overseas is 2:4 it's fine and i will be okay if we win even that many. But its tough to accept a overseas win loss ratios of 1:4 or worse? We are a major cricketing nation, unlike others and still we are not even winning reasonable number of overseas tests.

Is it so bad for young team ? It's always hard to tour away and it's harder first time without any experience and once confidence is gone youngsters find it hard to strike form it's very normal Aussies lost 4 -0 in India and did. It win test in England with young team and only at home with Johnson bowling to get wicket on every ball that they won anything and after that confidence carried over to South Africa which is better side than England

I think it must be 1:4 or worse? When Aussies lost 4-0 overseas they sacked Mickey Arthur and showed some intent to change. They did not talk about process, they talked about results and sacked Arthur. Later they won against Saffers? and Ashes overseas. We can't take credit out of Australia because MJ played a major hand. After all he plays for them and supposed to do just that. Warner, Rogers, Harris played their part too even though Aussies also dropped catches in every test innings. Aussie catching was at one of its worst in recent times. Inexperience should not be an excuse. There was plenty of time to plan retirement of Saurav, Rahul, Sachin and VVS and they were phased out so that the team did not look entirely out of experience.

Australia tour to India ended in March 2013. Arthur was then coach of Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy that followed in June 2013 where they failed to win a single game. There were also off field events like Warned punching Root in the pub. It is worth remembering that Australia also lost at home to South Africa in 2012. Arthur was all set to be the coach of the Ashes series. He was sacked 3 weeks before the first Ashes Test replaced by Lehmann who was the mentor of Australia A in England. The only time such a thing has happened in Indian cricket is after Greg Chappell exit, Grahan Ford refusal where Indian team didn't have a coach but a "manager". After Chappell's exit, India had a lot of short term coaches from Ravi Shastri in Bangladesh, Chandu Borde for England tour and Lalchand Rajput for WT20 2007. Kirsten only officially came in on 1 March 2008 for a 2-year contract.

Would be glad to know what it is in last 2 years overseas. If it is indeed 1:4 as i think on top of my head, it certainly is unacceptable to me from such a major cricketing nation, whatever the reasons for failure are overseas.

THere was plenty of time but it was wasted Some players played year too long while others were passengers for long time who occasionally did well and in the end youngsters were forced to debut away from home and play all over seas series one after another without ever playing outside of India before Yes it's true for even Kohli and he has been around for so long what chance did others have ? Also it's not excuse it's reason ...I still do not doubt quality of this team there is so much potential here but expecting them to win first time and play well in all 3 away tours one after another is bit too much

Whatever, the reasons the administrators and cricketers have to get over it and give better results than what we have seen.

amiret Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 In our entire test history in England, we played 52 tests before this tour and we managed to win a grand total of 5 test matches. That is 5 test wins since 1932. Some people are acting as if we have always been a great side overseas and now just losing. Its simply not the case. Teams from SC have always struggled in Aus, Eng and SA. Completely agree. We have always been a mediocre team outside the subcontinent and nothing has changed. We should not be surprised with frequent thrashings overseas . It is to be expected.
G_B_ Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 ^ so what are you going to do about it? or is it ok if we are trashed? Change Fletcher and the back room staff. Thats the very least they can do.

Thats the very least they can do. what can the fans do ? we can only pray for better times . what did we do after 4-0 in Eng & 4-0 in Aus ? What did we do after series loss in SA & NZ ? Same thing. We will hear the same old statements from the selectors ,BCCI & many delusional fans : "This is not a bad team , it is only losing badly frequently "
undisputed chap Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 and you know this attitude of we have been **** in the past overseas, so its ok to be **** overseas today needs to change. I dont want to know what other teams, good or bad have done. I want drastic improvement in India. There is no law of nature which says you are bad in the past so you must be bad now. This is one fecked up series where we started brightly before collapsing. :hatsoff: We want this team to dominate like the aussies & windies of the past becoz now the bcci is earning nearly 600% more. We want results to reflect that. We want batsman who can score double centuries even abroad We want 2-3 world class pacers & spinners We want the best fielders We want our opposition to shyte themselves when our team travels abroad We want a legacy which people will talk about for years to come & not just mere survival. :isalute:
kubrickian Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 If we have to win overseas consistently, we need massive changes right from domestic level. We need to change the pitches for domestic games as well as for tests and make them more seamer friendly, send our players to first class cricket in other countries, stop test players from playing IPL and reduce ODI games, invite international players to play in our domestic cricket and so on. We may lose revenue because people in India prefer watching ODIs and T20s a lot more and we may lose test matches at home too in the short term but we may become a better all-round side and become consistent in tests in long term. But I don't think BCCI will take these risks.

helperononline Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 expecting our team to last five days or at least make the opp play 2 innings is considered harsh ?
Sachinism Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 This English side is pants, we, or any half decent side should be able to turn them over, instead we're making them look invincible. Just look at every time any English batsman has scored any runs, we've dropped him early on and its hurt us big time. Not to say we haven't had those opportunities while batting, but nobody has taken advantage. Everything is wrong with our basics and tactics, which largely must fall at the feet of coach and skipper. The whole defensive mindset after we went 1-0 up. There's a constant fear of failure of the batting line-up (I guess justifiably so), forcing the selectors/captain to stick in half cricketers. We can't catch, can't field. The attitude is pathetic, there's no spirit, nor any motivation to fight it out. Player's techniques have fallen to bits and are so predictable in the way they're going to fall. There's no improvement being shown by any of the players, repeated mistakes are not on. As soon as we lost the 3rd test you could see, well I could anyway this is going to be a repeat of 2011, with players out there, who don't really want to be there. These are big issues that need addressing, we can't pick players who fight to get selected and don't give a **** once they're in.
