Lannister Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Because of their recent abysmal performances in test, the fans have lost interest and hence the low viewership. Don't blame it on the game, rather blame it on the players and the authorities.

CSK Fan Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 And then we suck at the new format, let's focus on something else
vvvslaxman Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 They are aim chair fans at best . The real fans are those who watch them in stadiums or at least in TV. They are the Ines through which it sustains and survives And that applies to every sport not just test cricket That is not entirely true. In all my life I have seen just one test match live. I am an ardent test match fan. We cannot assume anyone who don't go to ground are not test fans.
vvvslaxman Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Even when we were the no1 in the world the stadiums were empty Ganguly retirement test Sachin breaking Lara record Sehwag 300 vs SA every one of them were in empty stadiums .That was when we were the best team. But even in the 80s ODIs had.more attendance. Technology has evolved so much that people pick and choose which day they want to go while following other days ton TV. Only reason it might lose fans because we suck abroad. In chennai test against Australia we had healthy attendance.

Lol it is all, about malinga, narine, smith, Johnson, maxwell, Gaulle, miller. Raina is probably the lone exception. You want indian players to do well in all conditions. In one dayers with lot of restrictions on bowlers we look like beasts mostly at home. In SA not many could even touch the ball. In NZ we got owned. In England last time we got blanked out. In CB series got eliminated. Asia cup got eliminated. In tests there is no escape for weaknesses. You either overcome through technique or grit unlike one dayers. Forget about India match. I enjoyed ashes in Australia 10 times more than the the world t20. Even SA vs Oz was good.

If that's true the TV figures would be booming not in doldrums like now.The reality is most people don't have either the patience or time to watch test cricket nowadays . Also don't even get me started on the Chennai crowd. We finally reached Ranji final after 20 years in 2012 and we got the home draw vs Rajastan. It was during the Pongal holidays as well. Yet when I went for first day there weren't even 50 people inside the stadium . I bet 99% didn't even knew the Ranji final was on so much for passionate fans in Chennai.

Test cricket for years are "followed" rather than "attended" . Back in the 70s there would be 100s of guys surrounding one radio. Nowadays you have lot of illegal links, cricinfo. You cannot directly equate test match to one day in any era. In the 90s same talk was going on one day will replace tests with poor attendance for tests. But in 2000s test cricket rejuvenated like in no era. We are getting results in almost all series unlike the 80s. I never ever felt for a one day series loss ever except against Pakistan. But test series loss definitely hurts more. Heck now we even follow women's cricket , under 19 thanks to wide range of coverage. There is more awareness of cricket than in any era thanks to online media, social media.

NareshK Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Ridiculous thread. Test cricket is way more interesting format than ODI or T20 could ever be. Personally I love test cricket when conditions are helpful for seamers but I also like it when spinners get help too. This is the only format where you get to see the real quality of a batsman/bowler because they get tested and where there is a contest between bat and ball. Test cricket is like reading a great book. T20 is like some B grade masala movie.
Straight Drive Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Not bygone format for me. I played lots of 20,40 and 50 over matches. Frankly i like to pace an innings in a 40 or 50 over match, than in a T20. I come from that mindset and environment so the long format will keep me interested. But still i am waiting to play a 3 day match which our club started just few years back, sadly work has not allowed me to do 15 day cricket tours outside Mumbai anymore. Test cricket is a big hit not just amongst those who play proper cricket, but even those who do not have played proper cricket. The ground attendance declining is due to a combination of factors, not due to other formats. Even if proper cricketers follow the test format, test cricket will survive on that fan base alone.
Precambrian Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 But OP believes Indians are good at T20 cricket' date='he wants 6 months of IPL.[/quote'] Way to miss the point. 1. I think the days of "international" cricket is past - it is simply not sustainable and pro-rata basis IPL is giving more revenue to BCCI coffers than remaining itinerary. 2. Whether India is good or bad in T20 is totally irrelevant here. Fact is people, majority of them, like to watch the IPL than India games these days. That is a fact. You see ODIs grounds not fillin up while IPL matches are almost always sold out. 3. People don't watch tests anymore these days - they've simply better things to do rather than spend 5 days on a boring, outdated format. Proof? TRP ratings, crowd attendance and media coverage. All things considered, there is only one futuristic solution : Stop playing test cricket. Reduce international cricket, let IPL start taking precedence over all other forms of cricket, and let it get expanded to include the length, width and depth of our population.

That's the whole point. cricket is sustainable only as a form of entertainment in future - modern entertainment - short, breezy and unlinked to nationalist sentiments.

Is it as good as even a daily soap in TV?

Each and every odi game is sold out there is no comparison. 3.Ipl is Not all india its just few cities most of india still follows the indian cricket team. With mordern devices and smartphones where u get instant ball by ball notifications its very easy to follow and most do.

Straight Drive Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Since IPL came we are being told test cricket will die. In fact IPL was under pressure to sustain. Like usual Sachin has to prove he is better than some potentially great batsman ala Basit Ali and Hasan Raza. It's funny.
