India's ODI opening pair

The five Test series done and dusted. Humiliated with two massive innings defeats. Now focus shifts to ODIs. Are you happy with our current opening pair - Dhawan and Rohit? They had ONE good tournament in England during the Champions Trophy. Otherwise, they have been consistently poor - the tour of NZ or SA earlier this year. Rohit sucks all momentum on the top of the innings trying to be cautious. Dhawan's technique leaves a lot to be desired in overseas conditions. Most important of all, the pair is very poor at rotating strike, which is critical to success in ODIs. Rahane opened in England last time we toured, and did reasonably well. He did well in Bangladesh too in the recent 3-match series. He totally looked out of place in the middle order in NZ, failing to score double figures in 4 out of 5 matches. Do you think we have a case to try out Rahane as an opener again in ODIs, in place of Rohit? Should we persist with Dhawan? Do you see a back up opener in Sanju Samson?

Yes because they are our best option in the squad. Ppl will keep cribbing like they did to bring gambir in test we know what happened.

I feel even Rohit likes his no 4,5 spot. becoz in his own captiancy for MI, he drops back to no.5 maybe thats because they need hitters in the end. but he gives a feeling that he doesnt really fancy opening given a choice. his technique against the new ball is bad, but his hitting is good always. even in bad form he manages to hit a few sixers. i feel rahane dhawan kohli raina rohit dhoni binny jadeja bhuvi mohit umesh

Dhawan has now been dropped from T20 and Test as of now. Thanks to GG, he might have saved his test spot.

most of the pitches in this series and all the odis we play leading up to the wc will be flat so we can risk with dhawan,its a toss up between rahane and nohit for the other slot though both are not at all convincing

I would have Uttapa along with Manan and Jeevanjyot tp put pressure on Dhawan and Sharma.

I can't quite get what has gone wrong with Dhawan, he has decent back foot play. He isn't a dud like Sehwag when it comes to foot work. Just look at his CT highlights, his range of shots was so good. Ever since SA tour though he's had a horrible run.

What happened? We were no worse for trying. If something doesn't work for long, we keep on trying instead of sticking with same failing combination
